No. 19 Tars Prove Unsuccessful Against No. 7 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 24, 2007) ' The No. 19 Rollins men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss against conference foe Barry University (10-1, 4-1 SSC) on Saturday morning at the Buccaneer Tennis Center in a fight to finish before the afternoon rain set in.


'All three of Rollins' doubles teams were unsuccessful in their matches against some of the toughest conference competition. At number one, Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez were defeated by Roman Werschel and Andrew Sharnov in a tight match, 8-5, while Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo fell to Patrick Rittenauer and Victor Rodriguez in a struggle at the number two position, 8-4. Manuel Lauter and Dirk Benninghaus were victorious at the number three position in their win against Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz 8-4.

In singles actions, the Bucs easily took the number one and six positions with Rittenauer defeating Compton and Rodriguez defeating Albin Hubscher respectively, with both matches having identical sets of 6-1, 6-1. At number two slot, Tan was overwhelmed by Werschel 6-, 6-1. Positions three and four both went into three set matches as Sharnov defended the number three spot against Gomez, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 and Lauter came back to defeat No. 4 Carvalho 2-6, 7-6, 10-4. Seijo secured the only Rollins win by taking out Benninghaus 7-6, 6-4 in the fifth position.

The Tars (12-6, 1-1) will be back in action on Thursday, March 29 when they face the Lynn University Fighting Knights (10-2, 2-1).
