Rollins Falls to Lynn in Battle of Nationally Ranked Teams

MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 29, 2007) ' No. 19 Rollins took a 2-1 lead after doubles, but were swept in single play and fell to No. 6 Lynn 7-2 in Melbourne on Thursday. The loss is the Tars' second straight and drops their record to 12-7 overall and 1-2 in SSC play while the Fighting Knights improve to 13-2, 5-1.

Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez battled 16th ranked Lorenzo Cava and Julien Carsuzaa in the top doubles match and scored a huge 9-8(7-4) upset victory. Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo gave the Tars their second point of the match as they downed Tomas Racak and Andreas Parschau 8-5 in the No. 2 slot. Lynn got on the board in the No. 3' position as Dennis Riegraf and Denis Reinert downed Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz 8-5.

The Knights, behind four players ranked in Division II's top 50, won each of the six singles matches to record the SSC victory. Top ranked Cava downed Brian Compton 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles with sixth ranked Carsuzaa defeating Gomez 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 position. In a clash between two ranked players at the No. 3 singles match, No. 10 Riegraf took the first set over No. 37 Tan 6-2, with Tan coming back to take the second set 6-3.' Riegraf then scored the win by taking the third set 6-1.

No. 46 Reinert was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Carvalho at No. 4, Racak took Seijo 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and Axel Joachim downed Schwartz 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles match.'

Rollins will be back on the courts on Saturday, March 31 at home against Florida Gulf Coast. Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
