MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 20, 2007) ' The Rollins
men's tennis team continue to get back on track rolling past the
Florida Tech Panthers 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The Tars have now
won five straight matches.
Rollins (10-5, 1-0) captured two of three doubles bouts, which
gave them a slight cushion going into singles play. The Tars
dropped their No. 1 doubles match as Clifford Giel and Keith
Kessler outplayed Gustavo Carvalho and Jonathan Gomez by a score of
8-1. Rollins rebounded with a win at the second position. Adrian
Tan and Michael Schwartz took the No. 2 victory over Jeremy
Casperson and Jonathan Hanna 8-4. Brian Compton and Albin Hubscher
won in the third spot against Arthur Yentumi and Christian Smith
8-5.
The Tars captured four of the six singles matches against the
Panthers (6-10). In the No. 1 Compton fell to Giel 6-7, 6-3, 10-8
in a highly competitive match, while Tan succumbed to Kessler 6-2,
6-3 in the second seed. Rollins dug deep in the No. 3 spot with
Gomez defeating Hanna 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Carvalho had an easy time
disposing of Joel Zahlan 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 position and Seijo
battled past Smith 6-4, 6-1 in the fifth slot. Hubscher sealed the
Tars first conference win of the season with a victory over
Casperson 6-2, 6-3.
The men's tennis team will be back in action tomorrow, March 21
when they host the Augustana College Vikings (2-4) at 2:30 p.m. at
the Martin Complex.
