WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2007) ' Augustana
College proved to be no match for the Tars, as Rollins rolled by
the Vikings 9-0 without dropping a set on Wednesday afternoon at
the Martin Tennis Complex. The Tars are sporting a six match win
streak.
In doubles action, No. 1 seed Gustavo Carvalho and Jonathan
Gomez recorded their 10th team victory as they defeated Ryan
Gardner and Eric Olson 8-0. Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz took
their match against Steve Holzwarth and Thomas Shanor 8-2 in the
second spot. In the No. 3 slot, Kevin Stickney and Bill Rockwood
remained a perfect 2-0 on the season as they ran past Jon Hawkinson
and Ben Aslesen 8-1.
The No. 16 Tars dominated singles play with No. 1 seed Brian
Compton disposing of Gardner 6-2, 6-1 and Carvalho overwhelming
Olson 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2. Schwartz blanked Holzwarth 6-0, 6-0 in
the third position, while Noah John routed Shanor 6-0, 6-1 in the
fourth spot to stay a perfect 4-0 this season. Mike Compton and
Will Thwaites notched their first singles wins this season with big
victories. Compton thrashed Hawkinson 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 seed
and Thwaites trounced Aslesen 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth spot.
Rollins will travel to West Palm Beach on Friday, March 23 to
take on the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (9-8) at 3:00 p.m.
