A Short-Handed Rollins Comes Back Against No. 24 Anderson

SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 13, 2007) ' The 16th ranked Rollins men's tennis team won a tough match over the 24th ranked Anderson University 5-4. The Tars were stretched to the limit with a team of only six players, but were still able to improve to 6-5 while the Trojans fall to 8-5 on the season with the loss.

The Tars won two out of three doubles matches to give them a 2-1 cushion over the Trojans. The No. 1 team of Gustavo Carvalho and Jonathan Gomez overpowered Srikrishna Ramanathan and Renato Assuncao 8-6. Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz routed Andres Weisskopf and Marc Pibernat in the second seed 8-3. Pablo Seijo and Albin Hubscher suffered the loss against Carlos Sanches and Stephan Fehske 9-7.

No. 16 Rollins took the first three singles matches, but fell in the bottom three contests.

Tan defeated Weisskopf 6-2, 6-2 in the No.1 slot, while Gomez trounced Fehske 7-5, 6-0 in the second seed. Carvalho sealed the victory for the Tars by getting the best of Jose Augusto Gaspar 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3. The Tars' luck ran out in the remainder of the singles matches as Pibernat overwhelmed Schwartz 6-1, 7-6 in the fourth seed. Assuncao got the win at No. 5 over Seijo 6-1, 7-6. Sanches defeated Hubscher by scores of 6-1, 7-5.

The Tars (6-5) will be back in action on Wednesday, March 14, when they hit their home courts against University of Indianapolis at 3:00 p.m.
