No. 16 Tars Succumb To USC-Upstate Spartans

SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 11, 2007) ' The Rollins men's tennis team endured another tough loss against USC-Upstate 7-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Tars record now stands at 5-4 on the season.

Rollins was able to win one of two doubles matches on the day. Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez fell to Javier Tori and Sebastian Gonzales-Orbegoso 8-4 in the No. 1 slot, while Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz were able to notch a win over Sandy Franz and Leandro Orsorio 8-6 in the No. 2. Pablo Seijo and Gustavo Carvalho lost their third seed match to Stefan Dumitrescu and Renzo Airaldi 8-4.

The Spartans only allowed the Tars to win one singles match. Dumitrescu handily defeated Tan 6-1, 6-1 in the first seed, and Franz dismantled Compton 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Gomez dropped his match against Tori 6-2, 6-0 in the third seed, and No. 4 Carvalho notched the Tars only singles win over Gonzales-Orbegoso 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. In the fifth seeded contest, Roux took out Seijo 6-2, 6-0, and Arnaldo Lovera ran past Albin Hubscher 6-1, 6-1.

The Tars (5-4) will hit the hardcourts again tomorrow, March 12, at 10:00 a.m. when they take on the Armstrong Atlantic Pirates (10-1). Log on to www.RollinsSports.com for the latest news and photos.
