No. 16 Tars Turned Back by No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic

SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 12, 2007) ' The 16th ranked Rollins men's tennis team was turned back by second ranked Armstrong Atlantic 8-1 on Monday. Rollins lone point came in the No. 1 doubles match as Jonathan Gomez and Gustavo Carvahlo teamed to upset sixth ranked Christian Bergh and Robert Jendelund 8-6.

The No. 2 doubles match was tightly contested with fifth ranked Taavo Roos and Davor Zink downing Rollins' Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz 8-6. Paul Bishop and Henrik Lilja defeated Pablo Seijo and Albin Hubscher 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles slot.

The Pirates won all but one singles match-up in straight sets. No. 18 Bishop downed No. 32 Tan 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 1 match, fifth ranked Zink took Gomez 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 position and No. 43 Bergh was a 6-1, 4-0, ret. winner over Carvahlo at No. 3. Roos defeated Seijo 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 4 slot and Lilja took Hubscher 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6. Schwartz fell 6-2 in the first set to Jendelund, but came back to win the second 6-4 before falling in the super-tiebreaker 10-7.

The Rollins (5-5) men's tennis team will continue their spring break stint in Georgia with a neutral site match-up against Anderson (Ind.) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13.'
