ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. ' The 17th ranked Rollins
College Tars defeated the Flagler College Saints 5-4 on Tuesday
afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center. The Tars were losing the
match 1-2 after doubles play, but bounced back in singles action
winning four of six matches.
The No.1 doubles team of Jonathan Gomez and Gustavo Carvalho
fell to Mario Jutronic and Jeremy Lamande 8-1. Adrian Tan and Albin
Hubscher also succumbed to the Saints Aaron Haines and Antonio
Puente 8-6 in the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 doubles, Pablo Seijo and
Michael Schwartz let the Flagler team of Kyle Maloof and Mate
Pransevic have a chance to win match point, but the Tars battled
back to win 9-7.
Jurtonic took No. 1 singles for the Saints (1-3) defeating 7th
ranked Tan 6-4, 6-3. Gomez got Rollins back on track with a
straight sets victory over Lamande 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.
In the No. 3 position, 12th ranked Carvalho slipped by Haines 7-5,
6-4, while Flagler's Maloof outlasted Hubscher 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 in No.
4 singles. Seijo rolled by Pransevic 6-2, 6-3, and Schwartz
trounced Puente 6-2, 6-2 to seal the victory for the Tars.
Rollins (3-0) will be back in action when they hit the courts at
Webber International (0-3) on Saturday, February 24 in Babson Park
at 10:00 a.m.
