WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 30, 2007) -' Day
two of the Winter Park Rotary Tangerine Tournament opened with a
consolation round between the Flagler College Saints and Columbia
Union Pioneers.' Flagler succeeded in attaining a win over the
Pioneers with a final score of 104-51.
The Saints were on fire as the majority of the team contributed
significantly to the final outcome.' Junior guard Lyndon Merthie
led the team with 29 points, sinking 12 of 19 total field goals,
and finding net on 45% of his three point shots.' Junior center Ben
De La Cruz had a stellar day as well posting 18 points, followed by
freshman guard John Pietkiewicz with 14, and forwards Bryan
Borstelmann and Kenny Moore pulling in ten points each.
Freshman D.J. Ferguson had a solid game with 12 assists for the
day and contributing largely on both the offensive and defensive
sides.' Junior Brandon Johnson also contributed a large amount to
the team pulling in 14 rebounds for the Saints.' Seven other Saints
were right behind Johnson pulling in five or more rebounds for the
team.
The Pioneers of Columbia Union did not fare as well shooting
only 25% on field goals and 11.5% on shots outside the arc.' Senior
guard Dana Clark walked away with 11 points, with Maurice Stallion
and Tim Turner each contributing ten points.' Stallion led the
Pioneers with 7 rebounds, while Turner supplied the team with 5
assists and 3 steals for the day.
Columbia Union was quick to get points up on the board with an
opening layup from Turner.' Flagler rapidly answered back with a
flurry of action and never looked back while Columbia Union played
catch-up to no avail for the remainder of the game.
The championship game will be played between USC Aiken and host
Rollins College.' The All-Tournament team will be announced after
