WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 7, 2007) ' The
Florida Tech Panthers squeaked by the Rollins volleyball team 3-2
(28-30, 30-28, 17-30, 30-19, 15-13) on Wednesday evening, senior
night, at Warden Arena.
Before the match, the five seniors were honored in front of
family, friends, faculty and staff. Christina Reinders, Kim Cline,
Christie Eastman, Lorena Orlandini and Piper Young were escorted by
their families onto mid-court to celebrate their success.
In their final home match of the '07 season, two Tars had
double-doubles with Reinders notching 15 kills and 17 digs and
Stephanie Nichols registering 14 kills and 15 digs. Orlandini had
an excellent senior send-off with 13 kills, two aces, nine digs and
three solo blocks. Eastman had eight kills and five digs with Cline
tallying 31 digs in her final home contest. Lacey Malarky totaled
48 assists in the Tars' loss to the Panthers.
Rollins and Florida Tech exchanged games until the fifth game
when the Tars had a chance to forge a comeback at 13-14 in favor of
the Panthers. A kill by outside hitter Jessie Metzger sealed the
win for Florida Tech (15-13), bringing their final record to 21-12,
4-12 on the season.
The Panthers were led by Mayne Pegorari with 19 kills and 22
digs, and Sacha Gumbs with 18 kills.
The Tars (18-17, 5-10) will be back in action on Friday,
November 9 in their final match against the 14th ranked Florida
Southern Moccasins at 7:00 p.m.
