LAKELAND, Fla. (November 9, 2007) ' The Rollins
volleyball team concluded their '07 campaign with a loss to the
Florida Southern Moccasins 3-0 (30-25, 30-19, 30-22) on Friday
evening at the Jenkins Field House.
The Tars were led overall by senior Christie Eastman who had a
stellar night with 10 kills and eight digs. Lorena Orlandini
followed close behind with eight kills and Stephanie Nichols added
seven kills and nine digs. Kim Cline ended her senior season as
libero with eight digs and Lacey Malarky had 28 assists.
In the first game, the Tars and Mocs kept it close with Rollins
stealing the lead away from Florida Southern a dozen times. At
29-25 in favor of the Mocs, right side Ashley Martin slammed a kill
to give Florida Southern the first game. Nichols and Orlandini each
tallied five kills in the first.
Rollins was simply overwhelmed in the second game, falling
30-19. Orlandini registered two kills for the offense, while
Nichols and Cline totaled four digs a piece.
The Tars controlled their own destiny in the third game, coming
back from a five point deficit (15-10) to tie the Mocs 18-18. But
Florida Southern took over from that moment on, winning three
straight points (21-18). The Mocs sealed their final regular season
win with a kill by senior Jennifer King (30-22).
The Mocs (24-8, 11-5) were led by Ashley Martin who had 21 kills
and Beverly Stasis who notched 13 kills and five digs on Florida
Southern's senior night.
The Tars end their 2007 regular season with an 18-18 overall
record and 5-11 record in the Sunshine State Conference.
