WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 2, 2007) ' The
Rollins volleyball team fell short against the Nova Southeastern
Sharks 3-2 (26-30, 30-23, 30-20, 26-30, 16-14) on Friday evening.
Libero Kim Cline demolished the Rollins career record for digs with
21 on the night and 1,722 total.
Stephanie Nichols and Lorena Orlandini led Rollins with 19 kills
each, while Nichols landed a double-double with 10 digs. Christina
Reinders added 14 kills and 16 digs and setter Lacey Malarky
registered 52 assists and 10 digs.
The Tars kept it close against conference foe Nova, winning the
first and fourth games. In the fifth and deciding game Rollins was
up 12-8, but the Sharks were unrelenting and came back to make it
13-13. An error on the Tars, followed by a kill from Orlandini made
it 14-14. Nova middle blocker Melinda Gorman hammered a kill for
the Sharks to give them the 15-14 edge over the Tars. An
unfortunate attacking error on Rollins gave the match to the Sharks
16-14 in Game Five.
The Sharks (23-8, 9-4) were guided by five players who tallied
double-digit kills. Gorman had 19 kills, two aces and two blocks.
Outside hitter Christina Chubb and Aley Tallman each chipped in 16
kills with middle blocker Emily Carle adding 15. Setter Valia
Petrova had an impressive night with a triple-double of 10 kills,
62 assists and 14 digs.
The Tars (17-15, 4-8) will be back in action tomorrow, November
3 when they host the Lynn University Fighting Knights (18-10, 4-8)
at 4:00 p.m. The Fighting Knights are coming off a big win against
