WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 17, 2007) '' It was
a tough loss for the Tars as they battled against the University of
Tampa in a home meet at the Alfond Swimming Pool on campus.' The UT
Men were able to finish the day with a'score of 120 with the women
coming in with 126, while both Tars teams finishing with 78
points.
Freshman Ally Best was able to pull out a second place finish in
the Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle, coming in at 11:36.35 behind
Tampa's Susan Johnson who completed the race at 11:24.49.'
Sophomore Kylene Dey was able to finish in third behind Best with a
time of 12:24.15.
In the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle, Tayler Marx posted four points
to the board with a second place finish at 26.43 behind Tampa's
Stephanie Branham at 25.77.' The following women's event found
Kelly Cuddihy in third in the Women's 400 Yard IM.
The Rollins women fared well in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, with
Stephanie Posner, Kelly Cuddihy, and Kim deLeon finishing 1- 2-3
respectively with times of 1:13.92, 1:17.45, and 119.89.'
Two events later, the Freestyle relay team of Casey Shufelt,
Lauren Griesser, Megan Mattingly, and Tayler Marx, found a first
place finish with a total time of 1:49.77, with a second Rollins
team of Kylene Dey, Kelsey Broadmeadow, Ally Best, and Brighton
Springer coming in behind them at 2:01.12.
For the Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay, Rollins started out strong
finishing in second behind Tampa.' The team of Colby Loetz, Jackson
Nicholson, Jay Schmitz, and Carson Nicely finished with a time of
1:43.56 behind Tampa's team who finished at 1:39.76.
Freshmen Kamel Tejeda would post another second place finish to
the board for Rollins in the Men's 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing
in 10:25.09 behind Tampa's Tyler Furrer at 9:49.86.
In the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle, Jackson Nicholson would post a
second place finish with a time of 1:49.25, falling two seconds
short of UT's Blane Bess.' Two events later, it would be Brad
Rubash and Carson Nicely finishing 2-3 respectively in the Men's 50
Yard Freestyle with times of 22.80 and 23.25.'
The men wouldn't find a second place finish again until the
sixteenth event with Jeff Mueller posting a time of 58.00 in the
Men's 100 Yard Backstroke.
The highlight of the men's team Yard Freestyle Relay teams.' The
'A' team of Rubash, Tom Alexander, Billy Shugart, and Nicely
completed the race with a time of 1:31.49.' The next team followed
soon after posting a time of 1:35.27, with Daniel Paulling, Paul
Hoffman, Loetz, and Tejeda swimming for the 'B' team.
The latest in the CollegeSwimming.com rankings as of the morning
of the meet placed the Rollins men in 22nd, and the women in 28th
place.' Tampa was ranked at 15th and 16th for the men and women,
respectively.
Both teams now look to compete strongly in the upcoming Savannah
Invitational, being held November 30 through December 2.
