LAKELAND, Fla. (November 10, 2007) ' The
Rollins men's swim team rolled up 12 victories, including a
domination of the sprints, to beat Florida Southern 180-60 in their
2007-08 dual meet season opener.
Jeff Mueller, Jackson Nicholson, and Carson Nicely each had a
hand in three Rollins victories to lead the way.
Mueller won the 100 yard backstroke in 25.05 and the 200 yard
backstroke in 2:06.08. He then completed the busy day with a
victory in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.69. Nicholson and
Nicely teamed with Colby Loetz and Paul Bennett to win the 200 yard
medley relay in 1:45.49. Nicholson went on to take first in the 200
yard freestyle in 1:54.35 with teammate Tom Alexander in second in
1:58.47. Nicely was the winner of a Tars dominated 50 yard
freestyle, posting a time of 23.64. Brad Rubash was runner-up in
23.84 and Loetz was third in 24.35. Nicholson, Nicely and Rubash
then joined Billy Shugart to win the 200 yard freestyle in
1:34.38.
Newcomer Kamel Tejeda swept the distance events for the Tars,
taking the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:24.65 and the 500 yard
freestyle in 5:03.97. Teammate Daniel Paulling was runner-up in
both events, going 11:03.37 in the 1000 and 5:20.28 in the 500.
Paulling posted a victory in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of
2:11.64, with Paul Hoffman coming in second in 2:14.34.
Rollins posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 yard freestyle, led by
Alexander's victory in 50.96. Shugart was second in 51.43 and Joel
Eley third in 54.59. Jay Schmitz was a winner for Rollins, posting
a time of 59.15 in the 100 yard butterfly.
The Rollins swim teams will be back in the water on Saturday,
November 17 as they will host the University of Tampa at 1 p.m.
