WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 27, 2007) ' The
Rollins men's and women's swim teams kicked of their 2007-08 season
with an exhibition swim against Team Orlando on Saturday in a meet
that featured tight finishes and fast early season times.
The Rollins women picked up eight victories on the day with
newcomers Stephanie Posner and Ally Best taking part in three
each.
Posner teamed with Lauren Griesser, Megan Mattingly and Taylor
Marx to post a winning time of 2:02.99 in the 200 yard medley relay
to start the day. She also won the 200 yard IM in 2:28.61 and the
100 yard breaststroke in 1:15.90. Best was victorious in the 200
yard freestyle in 2:08.78 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:46.32. In
the meet finale, she teamed with Griesser, Marx and Casey Shufelt
to win the 200 yard freestyle in 1:51.72.
Marx was a winner in the 50 yard freestyle for the Tars,
finishing in 26.85 with Griesser taking the 100 yard backstroke
with a time of 1:10.02.
The day's closest finishes came on the men's side with Rollins
earning four wins and narrowly missing out on four more. The Tars
200 yard medley relay team of Colby Loetz, Jimmy Colston, Paul
Hoffman and Carson Nicely began Rollins' day with a second place
finish, just .05 seconds out of first. Nicely went on to add
another second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in
23.53, just .01 seconds behind first and .01 seconds ahead of
teammate Brad Rubash (23.54) in third. In the 200 yard freestyle,
Nicely joined Daniel Paulling, Jackson Nicholson and Jeff Mueller
to win by .03 seconds in 1:32.58.
Loetz was a winner in the 100 backstroke in 57.96 with Mueller
right on his heels in 59.31. Mueller took first in the 200 IM with
a time of 2:05.39 while Hoffman was in second in 2:07.31. Later on,
Hoffman won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:06.97.
Kamel Tejeda took first place in the 200 yard freestyle in
1:48.89 and was second in the 500 yard freestyle in 4:58.70, just
.65 out of first. Nicholson just missed a win in the 100 yard
freestyle, taking second in 51.20.
The Rollins swim teams will be back in the pool on November 3 as
they will host the Sunshine State Relays at the Alfond Pool.
Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
