WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 27, 2007) ' In
another five game effort, the Rollins volleyball team came out on
top against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 3-2 (30-24, 22-30,
27-30, 30-26, 15-12) on Saturday night at Warden Arena.
Three Tars scored double-figure kills as Christina Reinders led
the way with 15 kills and 15 digs, while Stephanie Nichols also had
a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Lorena Orlandini rounded
out the major scoring with 14 kills and two solo blocks. It was
Jenny Sherwood who saved the match for the Tars with two kills down
the stretch at 13-12 in the fifth and deciding game.
Natalie Branche and Nikki Swift had stellar nights on defense
with Branche banging six solo blocks and Swift diving for 13 digs.
Libero Kim Cline registered 20 digs on the night, six shy of
breaking the Rollins school record of 1,706 held by Tammara
Sanchez. Setters Erin Wareham and Lacey Malarky split playing time
with Wareham notching 32 assists and Malarky with 24.
The Sailfish were led by Bia Santos who finished with 17 kills
and 13 digs and Brittany Erickson who had 16 kills and 11 digs.
Setter Emily Ryerson totaled 51 assists on the evening.
The Tars (17-14) will be back in action in a weekend of
conference matches starting on Friday, November 2 against Nova
Southeastern at 7:00 p.m.
