TAMPA, Fla (October 20, 2007) ' The Rollins
volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the October
Classic hosted by the University of Tampa. The Tars defeated the
University of Montevallo Lady Falcons 3-1 (30-25, 30-19, 28-30,
30-27) in the first contest of the day, but fell to the North
Alabama Lions 3-1 (30-24, 30-22, 30-32, 30-27) in the second
contest.
Five Tars scored double-digit kills in the first match against
Montevallo (7-25) with Christina Reinders leading the way with 17
kills, 13 digs and two aces. Anna Dyakiewicz and Stephanie Nichols
added 14 kills each, and Nichols added a career-high 26 digs with
Dyakiewicz chipping in 12 digs. Lorena Orlandini and Jenny Sherwood
rounded out the scoring effort by registering 10 kills a piece.
Libero Kim Cline had an excellent day on defense with 23 digs,
while setter Erin Wareham notched 39 assists in the first
match.
In the second match against North Alabama (17-12), Reinders
tallied a career-high 21 kills, while Nichols and Orlandini added
13 kills each. Cline had 21 digs on the evening and Lacey Malarky
totaled 41 assists in the second match.
The Tars (16-12, 4-5) will be back in action on Wednesday,
October 24 when they travel to Tampa to play the top-ranked
University of Tampa (20-1, 8-0) at 7:00 p.m. at the Martinez Sports
Center.
