WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 3, 2007) ' The No.
25 Rollins men's basketball team pulled out the victory against the
Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 79-77 on Wednesday night in Warden
Arena. The Tars now have a ten game win streak at home.
Rollins (9-3) was led by center Craig Reichel who had 17 points
going 5-6 (83.3 percent) from the field and was a perfect 6-6 from
the free throw line with six rebounds. Following Reichel was guard
Deon Troupe who notched 13 points and was 4-8 (50.0 percent) from
the field, 3-6 (50.0 percent) from three point range and 2-4 (50.0
percent) from the charity stripe. Junior guard Jonny Reibel also
tallied 13 points, five assists and was 4-8 (50.0 percent) from the
field, 2-4 (50.0 percent) from three point range and 3-6 (50.0
percent).
With only five minutes to go in the first half Rollins was only
up by two points on Palm Beach Atlantic, 26-24. Two free throw
shots by Reibel, four points by forward Isaac Codrey and layups
from Troupe and senior Jordan Kolosey put the Tars up 36-28 at the
half.
In the first half, the Tars had 18 points in the paint to the
Sailfish's eight. Rollins also outdid Palm Beach Atlantic 11-2 in
second chance points and 15-6 in points from the bench.
The Sailfish came out of the locker room in the second half with
the intensity to make a run against the Tars. Six minutes ticked
off of the clock as the Sailfish tied the game 45-45. The score was
close throughout the second half until Palm Beach Atlantic forged a
nine point lead over Rollins. However, the Tars would not go down
that easily. With the Tars down 58-67, Rollins battled back to be
within two points, 65-67, with the help of Reichel and Troupe. From
that point on, the momentum was with the Tars and they came out on
top 79-77.
Guard Derek Barnes led the Sailfish (2-13) with 28 points,
shooting 9-16 (56.2 percent) from the field, 5-9 (55.5 percent)
from three point range and 5-6 (83.3 percent) from the charity
stripe.
Rollins will take on the Nova Southeastern Sharks (7-4, 2-0) on
Saturday, January 6 at 4:00 p.m. following the Rollins women's team
