Tars Spear Sharks In First Home SSC Contest Of Season

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 6, 2007) ' In their first conference game at Warden Arena this season, the Tars defeated conference rival Nova Southeastern Sharks 69-67 on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore guard Kevin Hogan led the way for the Tars with 19 total points and seven rebounds. He shot 4-7 (57.1 percent) from the field, 4-7 (57.1 percent) from three point range and 7-8 (87.5 percent) from the free throw line. Senior forward Isaac Codrey tallied 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Codrey went 6-9 (66.6 percent) from the field, 1-2 from the arc (50.0 percent) and was a perfect 1-1 from the charity stripe. Junior point guard Jonny Reibel notched 11 points, four rebounds and eight assists in the Tars' win over the Sharks.

Rollins (10-3, 1-1) began the first half with an 8-2 lead over Nova Southeastern, but the Sharks swam their way back to be within six, 41-35 at the halftime buzzer. Hogan notched 15 points in the first half alone and Codrey scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half as well for the Tars.

At the start of the second half, the Tars allowed the Sharks to come back into the game and as seven minutes ticked off the clock, Rollins was down 48-49 to Nova. The Tars would not go down without a fight to their Sunshine State Conference nemesis. Rollins was able to get their lead back up to five, 68-63 with 2:30 left on the clock.

Four points by Nova forward Diego Aguiar had the Sharks within one, 68-67. Aguiar then fouled hot-handed shooter Hogan and sent him to the line. Hogan knocked down 1-2 free throw shots with 24 seconds on the clock to give Rollins a 69-67 lead. Nova junior Oresti Nitsios attempted a game-winning three pointer and failed to convert as time expired.

Sophomore point guard Rhys Martin led the Sharks (7-5, 2-1) with 13 points, two assists and two steals. He was 4-6 (66.6 percent) from the field, 2-3 (66.6 percent) from three point range and 3-4 (75.0 percent) from the free throw line.
