Tars Sizzle Nets in Road Win Over Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. (January 24, 2007) ' The Rollins men's basketball team shot 60 percent in the second half and 58 percent for the game as the Tars stayed atop the Sunshine State Conference standings with an 87-74 win over Florida Tech on Wednesday.

Rollins entered the day in a three-way tie for the SSC lead with Barry and Lynn, who matched up against each other on Wednesday in Boca Raton. Barry scored a six point win to set up a Rollins versus. Barry match-up on Saturday, January 27 in Winter Park for the out-right lead of the conference. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Alfond Sports Center.

John Thinnes tied his season best with 21 points to lead five Tars (15-3, 6-1 SSC) in double figures. The senior guard was hot from long range, connecting on 5-7 from beyond the arc and 8-11 overall from the field. Isaac Codrey netted 18 points with Jonny Reibel adding 17 go to along with a game high eight assists and game high eight rebounds. Kevin Hogan notched 11 points and Craig Reichel added 10.

Guard EJ Murray led Florida Tech (5-15, 1-7 SSC) and all scorers with 24 points. Arthur Richardson put up 11 points and Justin Sedlak added 10.

The Tars won the battled on the boards, 30-21 and shot 58 percent while holding the Panthers to 45 percent from the field.

Neither team could gain an edge from the tip as the game was tied for the sixth time at 27-27 with 5:39 left in the first half. Codrey converted an old fashioned three-point play on the Tars' next possession to spark a 14-2 run over the next three minutes to put the visitors up 41-29 at the two minute park. Codrey scored eight points during the span with Thinnes and Hogan each connecting from long range. After some more back and forth play, Rollins took a comfortable 49-37 lead into the break.

The Panthers began the second half on a 12-2 run and quickly took a 49-48 lead just three minutes into the frame. Reibel got the Tars back on track with a trey and after Tech stormed back into the lead, Thinness hit on three straight from long range that put Rollins back in control for good.
