Rollins Outlasts Lynn In Tough Conference Battle

BOCA RATON, Fla. (January 13, 2007) ' The Rollins men's basketball team topped Lynn University 68-52 on Saturday evening at the de Hoernle Center. The Tars (12-3, 3-1) now hold an overall six game win streak.

Senior guard John Thinnes and sophomore guard Kevin Hogan led the Tars offensive. Thinnes tallied 17 points and three assists. He was 66.7 percent (6-9) from the field and 71.4 percent (5-7) from three point range. Hogan also notched 17 points in the Tars' win over the Fighting Knights. He was 57.1 percent (4-7) from the field, 50.0 percent (3-6) from behind the arc and 85.7 percent (6-7) from the free throw line. Forward Isaac Codrey added 13 points, two assists, three steals and five rebounds for Rollins.

The Tars were able to convert 23 points off of the Fighting Knights' turnovers, yet Rollins was outscored 31-17 on points from the bench.

Rollins and Lynn began the first half trading shots back and forth, but as the half progressed it was Rollins who was able to jump out to a four point lead at halftime, 28-24. Thinnes led the scoring in the first half with eight points, followed closely by Codrey with seven and guard Deon Troupe with seven as well.

The Tars came out of the locker room with a renewed sense of urgency as Thinnes knocked down a three pointer within the first 20 seconds of the second half. The increased energy was felt among all Tars' players as they jumped out to a 19 point lead with 10 minutes remaining the in the half, 51-32. In the last five minutes of the game, the Fighting Knights made their last attempt to cut the Rollins' lead, but were only able to come within 12 points of the Tars, 50-62. Rollins only allowed Lynn to score two more points for the remainder of the game with the final score 68-52.

Lynn (11-4, 3-1) was led by guard Luke Postorino who had 12 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Andrew Smith and Ed Millard each knocked down 11 points for the Fighting Knights.

Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m. when they play Saint Leo (8-6, 2-2) in Warden Arena.
