(September 3, 2006) ' The Rollins Tars were
stunned by the 16th ranked Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 3-0 (30-20,
30-26, 30-24) at Warden Arena Sunday afternoon.
Offensively, the
Tars were led by'right-side hitter'Lorena Orlandini and outside
hitter Piper Young. Orlandini notched 11 kills and two blocks,
while Young added 10 kills and five digs. Middle blocker, Christina
Reinders also contributed to the team with eight kills and two
aces.'Setter Lacey Malarky had 28 assists and two
aces.
On defense,
Rollins was commanded by freshman middle blocker Brittainy Daiger
who had four blocks and libero Kim Cline added 19 digs.
Rollins began the first game 4-0, but the Eagles quickly closed
the gap and continued to challenge the Tars. Despite the Tars'
valiant effort, it was not enough to push the team to another win.
This is Rollins first loss of the season, bringing their record to
4-1.
The Eagles offense was led by senior middle hitter Erika Fonseca
who had 11 kills and two blocks and junior outside hitter Brooke
Youngquist who added 12 kills, two aces and one block to drive her
team to victory.'
The Tars will play in the Armstrong Atlantic Tournament on
September 8-9 in Savannah/>, Georgia/>/> where they will
take on UNC Pembroke, Presbyterian, USC Upstate and Francis Marion.
Their next home match will be on September 15 against Barry at 7
p.m.
