Rollins Tars fell to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 3-0 (30-11,
30-20, 30-28) on Tuesday evening at Alico Arena.
The Tars were led by outside hitter Stephanie Nichols with 10
kills, one solo block and one block assist. Right-side hitter
Lorena Orlandini added nine kills, four digs and one block
assist.
Senior libero Sarah Schneider tallied 14 digs and setter Lacey
Malarky had 29 assists for the Tars.
In the first game, the Eagles (13-2) overpowered the Tars
decisively 30-11. Daiger led the way for the Tars with three kills,
followed by Swift and Nichols who each had two kills to round out
Rollins in Game 1.
At 9-1 in the second game, the Tars made a 3-0 run, but it was
short-lived. The Eagles battled right back and overwhelmed Rollins,
eventually winning Game 2 (30-20).
For the offense, Orlandini had seven of her nine kills in Game 3
to boost the Tars' points and morale. Rollins was neck-and-neck
with the Eagles up until the last point of the game (30-28).
Rollins (11-4,
3-1) will travel to Saint Leo on Friday, September, 29 to take on
the Lions at 7:00 p.m. in a Sunshine State Conference match.
