(September 29, 2006) ' The Rollins Tars lost to the Saint
Leo Lions 3-1 (31-29, 28-30, 31-29, 30-23) Friday night at the
Marion/> Bowman/> Activities/> Center/>/>.
Outside hitter
Stephanie Nichols led the Tars with 19 kills, one ace and eight
digs. Junior Lorena Orlandini tallied 14 kills, two aces, two digs
and seven block assists. Middle blocker Christina Reinders followed
closely with 11 kills, three aces, two digs and four block
assists.
In Game 1 (29-31),
sophomore Nichols had five kills, one ace and two digs. At 13-13,
Rollins broke away to a six-point lead (21-15). Nevertheless, they
were unable to convert their efforts and win the opening game.
Right-side hitter
Orlandini commanded Game 2 (30-28) with eight kills and one block
assist. It was a close game throughout, but the Tars closed in on
the Lions at 25-25 and fought hard to prevail in the second
game.
Reinders led the
way for the Tars in Game 3 (29-31) with five kills, one dig and one
block assist. Rollins started the third game strong with a 5-2
lead; However, Saint Leo battled back and prevailed over the
Tars.
In the fourth and
final game, Nichols notched four kills, and Reinders and Orlandini
each added two kills.
Setter Lacey
Malarky had 53 assists and Nikki Swift totaled 18 digs in the Tars
loss to the Lions.
The Tars (11-5,
3-2) will travel to St. Petersburg/>/> on Sunday, October 1
to take on the Eckerd College Tritons (10-7, 1-4) at 4 p.m.
