WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 22, 2006) '
Rollins overwhelmed Florida Tech 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-26) on
Friday evening in Warden Arena.
This match'marked the first time sisters Christina (Rollins
junior MB) and Melissa Reinders (Florida Tech freshman libero)
would go head-to-head at the collegiate level. A record crowd of
friends and family came to show their support for both teams and
both'players.
The Tars were led by the offensive prowess of outside hitter
Stephanie Nichols, who tallied 15 kills, six digs and one block.
Outside hitter Piper Young'also had a great night, notching 14
kills, one ace and 10 digs. Junior middle blocker Christina
Reinders added seven kills and four block assists, and freshman
middle blocker Brittainy Daiger had nine kills and two block
assists.
Rollins dictated'the majority'of'the rallies against Florida
Tech for the entire three-game'match. The Tars' team camraderie was
an integral part of this'Sunshine State Conference'win.
Setter Lacey Malarky had 40 assists, while libero Kim Cline
added 16 digs for the defense.
Melissa Reinders added one ace and 15 digs in the Florida Tech
Panthers (2-13, 0-3) loss to the Tars.
The Rollins Tars (10-3, 3-1) will travel to St. Augustine to
take on the Flagler College Saints (12-5, 0-0) on Saturday,
September 23 at 4:00 p.m.
