WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 15,
2006) ' Rollins defeated Barry University 3-2 (30-17,
23-30, 23-30, 30-24, 15-10) in their Sunshine State Conference home
opener on Friday night in Warden Arena.
The Tars were led by the outstanding offensive effort of outside
hitter Stephanie Nichols, middle blocker Christina Reinders,
outside hitter Piper Young and right-side hitter Lorena
Orlandini.
Nichols notched 20 kills, three aces, one solo block and two
block assists, while Reinders had 16 kills, three aces and four
block assists. Young added 15 kills, 11 digs and three block
assists and Orlandini had 13 kills, three aces, nine digs, one solo
block and three block assists.
Rollins went on a 3-0 run to start the first game of the match
and never looked back, dominating Barry in a decisive Game 1
victory (30-17). Although the Tars fell to the Buccaneers in Game 2
(23-30) and Game 3 (23-30), they rallied back to win Game 4
(30-24).
In the fifth game of the match down 4-8, the Tars went on a 7-0
run led by junior Christina Reinders who propelled the offense with
five kills and two block assists.
Setter Lacey Malarky totaled 51 assists and 14 digs. Piper Young
and libero Kim Cline combined for 22 digs.
