WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 16, 2006) '
Rollins defeated Nova Southeastern University 3-1 (30-28, 27-30,
30-23, 30-27) Saturday night at Warden Arena.
The Tars were led by the outstanding offense of outside hitter
Stephanie Nichols, who notched an imposing career best 29 kills,
two aces and 13 digs. Outside hitter Piper Young added 17 kills,
one ace and 15 digs, and freshman middle blocker Brittainy Daiger
had 12 kills. Middle blocker Christina Reinders contributed to the
offense with 11 kills, two aces, one solo block and one block
assist.
Rollins began the first game of the match down 0-4, but they
battled back to 17-17 and were able to win (30-28). In the second,
the Tars fell to the Sharks (27-30) in a game filled with several
lead changes. Rollins cruised to victory in the third game (30-23).
With the score 27-27 in the fourth game, Lorena Orlandini and
Christina Reinders combined for the final three kills to defeat
Nova Southeastern (30-27).
Setter Lacey Malarky had 65 assists, one ace and six digs, and
libero Kim Cline tallied 20 digs defensively.
The Tars (9-2, 2-0) will travel to Lakeland, Fla. on Wednesday,
September 20 to play the Florida Southern Mocs (12-2, 2-0) at 7:00
p.m.
