WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.
(February 20, 2006) ' The Rollins men's tennis team is back to its
winning ways as the Tars shutout Palm Beach Atlantic 9-0 for their
second straight win. Rollins (2-3), playing with a shuffled lineup,
dominated the entire match with just the No. 1 singles and No. 1
doubles going to tiebreakers.
Brian Compton and
Jonathan Gomez won a hard fought No. 1 doubles match over Paul
Segodo and Caleb Peterson as they were down 8-7, but broke serve
and came back to win 9-8 with a 7-4 tiebreaker. David Tafur and
Adrian Tan took care of the No. 2 match, downing Kyle Maloof and
John Tilton 8-3 with Albin Hubscher and Brian Irvin winning 8-5 at
No. 3 over Brock Newton and Charles Vanderskoff to give Rollins a
3-0 advantage.
The Tars' Tan came out
on top over Segodo 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 in the No. 1 singles match with
Tafur downing Newton 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 2 match. Compton took
Maloof 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Gomez defeated Peterson 6-1, 6-2
in the No. 4 slot with Hubschers's 6-2, 6-3 win over Tilton in the
No. 5 match and Irvin's 6-1, 6-1 win past Fairchild at No. 6
completing the Tars sweep.
The eighth ranked Tars
will get into Sunshine State Conference action on Thursday,
February 23 when they will host Saint Leo at 3 p.m.
