WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 29, 2006) ' Down by
two in the final seconds, Adrian Robinson drained a three-pointer,
was fouled and connected on the freebie to boost Georgia
Southwestern State past Southern Connecticut State 74-72 in the
opening game of the 32nd Annual Winter Park Rotary Tangerine
Tournament.
Norbey Aragon paced the Hurricanes (7-2) with 27 points, who are
in the middle of a three-games in three-days stretch.' Robinson
chipped in 24 with Antonio Campbell adding six points, seven
rebounds and seven assists.
The Eagles (2-8) were led by Devon Sullivan with 19 points and
eight rebounds. Danny Miller added 16 with Kevin Diffley netting
11.
The game was back and forth throughout the first five minutes,
but the Owls went on a 10-4 spurt and took a 21-13 lead with 11:30
to go. The half ended with Aragon connecting on three straight free
throws to make the score 35-33 at the break.
The Hurricanes came out of the locker room strong and opened up
a 48-43 lead eight minutes in. Southern Connecticut State battled
back to take a 53-51 lead at the 8:40 mark and were up by as much
as seven with 2:33 on the clock. Georgia Southwestern fought back
and set up Robinson's clutch three pointer and the ensuing
free-throw for the Hurricane's victory.
Southern Connecticut State will match up with Nyack College in
the Winter Park Rotary Tangerine Tournament Consolation game at 6
p.m. on Saturday. Georgia Southwestern will take on host Rollins
College at 8 p.m. in the Championship contest.
