Rollins Men Run Past Warner Southern, 76-65

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 22, 2006) ' Rollins rolled up their third straight victory with a 76-65 triumph over Warner Southern on Wednesday. The Tars were sent to the free throw line 33 times in the contest and made the most of it, connecting on 27.'

Senior Isaac Codrey knocked down 12 free throws en route to a 23 point performance to lead the Tars (3-2). Jonny Reibel added 18 points with Craig Reichel netting 12 and gathering a team high nine rebounds.

Maurice Johnson led a tough Warner Southern (3-1) squad with 16 points. Alex Castillo added 11 with Brandon Hamilton going for a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Rollins struggled in the first half, shooting just 44 percent (11-25) from the floor while the Royals hit 50 percent (14-28). Reibel gave the Tars a three point lead, 11-8 at the 15 minute mark, but Warner Southern took off with an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to grab a 19-11 advantage. Rollins chipped away and tied the score at 21 on a Greg Sweeney three-pointer with 6:41 to go, but the Royals stayed resilient and went on a quick 5-0 run. With just under four minutes left in the half, Sweeney converted a traditional three point play to pull Rollins to within 28-27 before a pair of Reichel on the next possession put Rollins up by one. Warner Southern proved to have one more run left and took a 35-31 advantage into the break.

Warner Southern went up by as much as five early in the second half, but Deon Troupe put the Tars ahead by one with a lay-up four minutes into the stanza. Marco De La Cruz answered with a lay-up on the Royals end before Codrey connected from long range to put Rollins up 42-40 with 15:10 on the clock. Warner Southern tied it at 42, but Kevin Hogan converted a three-point play to put Rollins up for good and spark a 16-2 Tars run, giving the hosts a 14 point lead with 10 minutes to go.

The Tars won on the boards for the second straight game, out-rebounding the visitors 32-30. Rollins also forced 17 turnovers while committing 13.

Rollins will be back in action on Tuesday, November 28 against Southeastern University and will look to end their four-game home stand undefeated. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Alfond Sports Center.
