WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 18, 2006) ' The
Rollins men's basketball team earned their first win of the 2006-07
season defeating the Flagler College Saints 95-81 on Saturday
afternoon at Warden Arena.
Rollins previously played Flagler College a decade ago on
November 26, 1996 winning 86-75.
Leading the way for Rollins (1-1) was point guard Jonny Reibel
who was 7-11 from the field tallying 21 points, eight assists and
four steals. Reibel was also 5-5 from the charity stripe. Following
closely behind was guard John Thinnes who shot 5-9 from three-point
range with a total of 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Sophomore Kevin Hogan notched a career-high 19 points, adding three
rebounds and three steals for the Tars. He was 6-11 from the field
and 5-10 from the arc.
At the start of the first half, the Saints tried to keep it
close, but Rollins pulled away to a nine point lead after seven
minutes of play. The Tars refused to let up and they took that
momentum into halftime as they led Flagler 46-36.
Forward Sam Jozenville (0-2) was 11-19 from the field, leading
the Saints with 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, one block and
one steal. Bryan Borstelmann also added 22 points, two steals and
five rebounds for Flagler.
The Tars led the Saints in all three shooting categories, field
goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage.
Rollins shot 53 percent for the game (32-60), while Flagler only
produced 43 percent from the field (31-72). The Tars were perfect
from the foul line in the second half making 15 of 15 free
throws.
At 89-76 in the second half, the crowd at Warden Arena rose to
their feet and broke into a chant of 'Smoothies, smoothies!' If the
Rollins men's or women's basketball team scores 90 points in a home
game, every fan is treated to a free smoothie from Tropical
Smoothie Caf' in Winter Park. Reibel was able to give the fans what
they wanted as he downed a free throw to bring the score to
90-76.
Rollins will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday,
November 21 at 7:30 p.m. when they take on Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at
home.
