FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 7, 2006) ' The
Rollins Tars fell the Nova Southeastern University Sharks 3-1
(28-30, 31-29, 30-22, 30-18) on Saturday afternoon at University
Center Arena. This is Rollins fifth straight loss of the
season.
Outside hitter Stephanie Nichols led the Tars with 17 kills and
14 digs. Piper Young added 13 kills and 13 digs to the offense.
Libero Kim Cline notched 29 digs and setter Lacey Malarky had 47
assists.
Rollins was down in the first game 14-8, but with the help of
their offensive leaders ' Nichols, Young and freshman Brittainy
Daiger, they came back to tie the game 15-15. They briefly lost the
lead, but regained their composure and brought the score back to
24-24. The Sharks committed numerous unforced errors, which led to
the Tars game one win. Nichols led the offense in Game 1 (30-28)
with seven kills, and Young and Orlandini tallied four kills each
and a combined seven digs.
In Game 2, the Tars and Sharks rallied back and forth in the
closest game of the match. Tied 29-29, Rollins made two unfortunate
hitting errors to give Nova the second game (31-29).
Rollins was unable to recover from their heartbreaking Game 2
defeat, losing games three and four decisively to Nova (30-22 and
30-18).
Outside hitter/MB Karla Ortiz led the Sharks (8-14, 2-7) with 13
kills, three assists and seven digs.
Rollins (11-8, 3-5) will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. on Sunday,
October 8 to take on Lynn University (8-8, 3-4) at 2:00 p.m.
