WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 28, 2006) ' The
Rollins Tars pummeled the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 3-1 (30-18,
30-25, 26-30, 30-23) on Saturday afternoon at Warden Arena.
Middle blocker Christina Reinders led the way for the Tars with
19 kills, one solo block and two assisted blocks. Outside hitter
Piper Young followed with 18 kills, one ace and a career-high 19
digs. Freshman Brittainy Daiger added nine kills and five assisted
blocks.
Libero Kim Cline contributed with three service aces and nine
digs, while setter Lacey Malarky tallied 59 assists.
In the first game, Reinders dominated the offense with seven
kills. At 24-16, she made two consecutive kills to bring the Tars
to a 26-16 lead. Rollins took that momentum all the way to the end
of Game 1 (30-18).
Outside hitter Nikki Swift led Rollins in Game 2 with six kills.
Young and Reinders Rollins each added four kills a piece. With the
score 28-24 in favor of the Tars, Young put down two kills to give
Rollins the second game 30-25.
Young dictated the Tars' offense in the third game with seven
kills and four digs. Down 6-12 to the Sailfish, Rollins forged a
comeback. With three kills and one ace from Young and two from
Reinders, plus an error by Palm Beach Atlantic, the Tars managed to
even the score at 13-13. But, the Sailfish would not be silenced
and with the help of Chrissy Gulden's five kills, Palm Beach
Atlantic took Game 3 (30-26).
In the fourth game, the Tars built a decisive 10-point lead over
the Sailfish 16-6. Young led the Tars in Game 4 with six kills,
Reinders and Daiger each added four kills, Swift pitched in with
three kills and Lorena Orlandini with one kill gave the Tars the
victory over Palm Beach Atlantic 30-23.
Gulden led Palm Beach Atlantic (20-14) with 18 kills and eight
digs.
The Tars (17-11, 5-7) will face their conference rivals the Lynn
University Fighting Knights (12-12, 5-7) at home on Sunday, October
29 at 2:00 p.m.
