2006) ' The Lynn University Fighting Knights knocked off
the Rollins Tars on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2006 at Warden
Arena.
Outside hitter
Piper Young propelled the Tars offense with 21 kills, five aces and
two solo blocks. Sophomore Stephanie Nichols followed close behind
with a double-double of 20 kills and 20 digs. Middle blocker
Christina Reinders notched 12 kills, two aces and two blocks and
Lorena Orlandini added 11 kills, seven digs, one solo block and
three assisted blocks.
Libero Kim Cline
had 16 digs for the Tars defensively and Lacey Malarky tallied 59
assists on the day.
Young led the Tars
in Game 1 with six kills. In front of the Fighting Knights 18-13,
the Tars let the lead slip away and Lynn/>/> came back to tie
Rollins 25-25. Young contributed one kill for the Tars, while the
Fighting Knights grabbed the other five points, winning the first
game 30-26.
In the Game 2,
Nichols dominated the offense with eight kills. Rollins led
Lynn/>/> for the entire second game, eventually winning it
30-19.
Nichols also
controlled the offense in the third game with six kills and six
digs. During the back-and-forth scoring changes of Game 3, Rollins
finally broke away to a seven-point lead 20-13, but it was
short-lived. The Fighting Knights came back to make the score
28-28. With kills from Carissa Erath and Larissa Witherspoon, the
third game was over in favor of Lynn/>/> 30-28.
Young took over at
the helm of the Tars offense with six kills, one ace and one block
in the fourth game. With a 12-point lead at 27-15, Megan Bedner had
a setting error and Cline rattled off two service aces for the Game
4 victory 30-15.
In the fifth and
final game, Lynn/>/> jumped out to a 6-0 lead and Rollins
failed to recover. Young had three kills, Orlandini two kills and
Nichols capped it off with one kill in the Tars' loss to the
Fighting Knights.
Outside hitter
Larissa Witherspoon led Lynn/>/> with a double-double of 18
kills and 18 digs.
Rollins (17-12,
5-8) will face the Saint Leo Lions (20-8, 7-6) at home on Tuesday,
October 31 at 7:00 p.m.
