' The Rollins Tars fell to the Barry Buccaneers 3-1
(30-27, 28-30, 30-17, 30-27) on Tuesday night at the Health and
Sports/> Center/>/>.
Leading the way
for the Tars was outside hitter Piper Young with 16 kills, two aces
and nine digs. Right-side hitter Lorena Orlandini added 11 kills
and four block assists.
Setter Lacey
Malarky notched 45 assists, while libero Kim Cline dove for 13
digs.
In the first game,
middle hitter Brittainy Daiger and Young each tallied four kills.
With the Tars leading 6-1, the Bucs managed to battle back all the
way to 27-27. Three consecutive kills for Barry gave them the Game
1 victory (30-27).
Young and Reinders
led the offensive effort in Game 2 with five kills a piece. The
score went back and forth until 28-28 when a kill from Reinders put
the Tars up 29-28. An error by Barry right-side hitter Lorine
Durski handed Rollins the second game (30-28).
On the scoreboard
for the Tars in the third game was Young with three kills and three
digs and Stephanie Nichols and Orlandini added two kills each.
Barry built a solid 10-point lead with the score 26-16 and Rollins
was unable to recover, losing 30-17.
In the fourth and
final game, the Tars had an 8-3 lead when the Bucs forged a
comeback and made the score 27-27. Two errors by Rollins gave Barry
a 29-27 lead when Bucs middle hitter Samara de Freitas put down a
kill and sealed the victory for Barry (30-27).
Senior Nicole
Castera led Barry (13-9, 7-6) with 20 kills, three aces and four
digs on the Bucs' senior night.
Next up for the
Tars (16-11, 5-7) is a home match against Palm Beach Atlantic
(19-13) on Saturday, October 28 at 4:00 p.m.
