MELBOURNE, Fla. (October 20, 2006) ' The
Rollins Tars slashed the Florida Tech Panthers 3-1 (30-24, 32-30,
28-30, 30-15) Friday evening at the Clemente Center.
Outside hitter Piper Young ran the offense with 17 kills, seven
aces and 17 digs. Right-side hitter Lorena Orlandini totaled 14
kills, four digs and a block, and middle hitter Christina Reinders
added 13 kills, two aces, five digs and a block. Stephanie Nichols
contributed to the offense with 11 kills, one ace and 15 digs.
Setter Lacey Malarky had 48 assists and libero Kim Cline dug 19
balls and had two service aces for the Tars.
In the first game, Young and Daiger led with four kills each.
With the score tied 4-4, the Tars got motivated and started to
dominate the Panthers. They never let up and finished Game 1 with
the score 30-24.
Down 18-10 in the second game, the Tars were able to fight back
to clinch the game 32-30. Young led Rollins with five kills and
seven digs and Reinders added three kills and two aces.
In Game 3, the Panthers stayed with the Tars throughout the
entire game. Both teams traded leads until the game finally ended
with a 30-28 triumph for Florida Tech.
Young and Reinders guided the Tars with a combined six kills to
lead their team to a victory.
Outside hitter Jessica Metzger and middle blocker Jennifer McCoy
led the Panthers (2-25, 0-11) with 12 kills each.
Rollins (16-10, 5-6) will travel to Miami Shores, Fla. on
Tuesday, October 24 to take on the Barry Buccaneers (12-7, 6-4) at
7:00 p.m.
