(October 13, 2006) ' The Rollins Tars overpowered
both of their opponents at the Carson-Newman'Invitational on Friday
afternoon at the Holt Fieldhouse.
In their first match, the Tars routed Carson-Newman 3-1 (26-30,
30-18, 30-26, 30-26). Rollins second match proved to be no contest
as they crushed Newberry/> College/>/> 3-0 (30-26, 30-20,
30-21).
In their match against Carson-Newman (11-12), the Tars were led
by the outstanding hitting of Piper Young who was unstoppable all
match. She tallied an impressive 28 kills, two aces and seven digs.
Following close behind was outside hitter Stephanie Nichols who
notched 17 kills and six digs. Middle hitters Christina Reinders
and Brittainy Daiger combined for 15 kills and six block
assists.
Setter Lacey Malarky had 48 assists, while libero Kim Cline dove
for seven digs.
Against Newberry/> College/>/> (2-22), Rollins was once
again led by the phenomenal all-around hitting of Young, who had 12
kills, two aces, eight digs and three blocks. Nichols and Reinders
each had nine kills to add to the Tars' overwhelming victory
against the Indians.
Cline tallied 20 digs and three aces, and Malarky had 26 assists
for the match.
On Saturday, October 14, the Tars (14-8, 4-5) will take on the
South Region ranked #9 Lenoir Rhyne College (16-8) and #6
University of South Carolina-Aiken (21-3)
