WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 30, 2006) ' The
Rollins College women's basketball team defeated the Panthers of
Florida Tech 64-30 to improve their record to 18-0 on the season
and 9-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Freshman guard Jennifer Dyer had
a career night with 17 points and seniors Joslyn Giles
and Randi Weiss each added 11 apiece.

For
a third straight game, the Tars were able to hold their opponents
to fewer than 13 points in the first half. Florida Tech shot 22
pct. (6-27) from the field in the first half and were forced into
11 turnovers. Junior guard Danielle Vaughn, the Panthers leading
scorer, led her team with 3-9 shooting for six points in the half,
while Dyer (Wake Forest, N.C.) once again came off the bench to
provide much needed offense for the Tars and notched nine points of
her own.

The Tars' defense stood strong in the
second half, holding the Panthers to just one basket in the first
11 minutes. In that span the Tars went on a 21-2 run, highlighted
by six points from Dyer, five from Giles (Winter Haven, Fla.) and
four from junior forward Larissa McDonough
(Ormond Beach, Fla.). The Tars
increased their lead throughout the remainder of the second half,
going ahead by as many as 34 points. Weiss (Kissimmee, Fla.)
finished the game 3-3 from three-point range and tied Giles with
nine rebounds on the evening.

The
Panthers finished the game shooting 19.7 pct. (12-61) from the
field, including 0-17 from three-point range. The Tars shot 35 pct.
(21-60) on the evening and connected on six of 14 attempts from the
three-point line. Florida Tech junior center Shante Johnson led all
players with 10 rebounds and a game high four blocks.

The
Tars out-rebounded the Panthers 51-46 and forced 23 turnovers while
committing only 20 of their own.

The
Tars will continue their busy conference schedule as they travel to
Saint Leo on Wednesday, February 1. Game time is set for 5:30
p.m.
