SAINT
LEO, Fla. (February 1, 2006) The Rollins College women's basketball
improved to a school record 19-0 as they defeated Saint Leo
University , 56-46. The Tars (19-0, 10-0) used another big
defensive effort to down the Lions (7-13, 4-6) for the second time
this season.

Junior
forward Larissa McDonough led the way for the Tars as she finished
with 19 points and 12 rebounds on 3-5 shooting from three point
range. Senior forward Joslyn Giles finished with 10 points and
eight rebounds while shooting 5-8 from the free throw line.

The
Lions were led by Danielle Hoeffner who finished with 12 points on
2-5 shooting from long range. Katie Koestner led the Lions in
rebounds with 12.

The
Lions began the first four minutes of the first half on a 6-1 run,
stunning the Tars in the opening minutes. The Tars eventually
evened up the score at 13 with 8:07 to play on a three pointer by
Joslyn Giles. Jen Dyer gave the Tars their biggest lead of the game
at 20-13 on a free throw with 4:02 to play. The Tars would keep the
lead at seven, as they went in at the break up 22-15.

Rollins
couldn't shake Saint Leo in the opening minutes of the second. The
Tars could only extend the lead to 10 points five minutes in at
33-23. Rollins responded with a 20-7 run over the next nine
minutes. The Tars built their biggest lead of the game at 53-30
with a lay-in by Randi Weiss at the 6:34 mark. Saint Leo would pile
on the garbage baskets at the end to make it respectable. But the
Tars rolled out of Saint Leo with a 56-46 victory.

The
Tars will return to action Saturday, February 4 when they will face
off with Eckerd. Eckerd is 4-16 and 2-7 in Sunshine State
Conference play. The Tars defeated the Tritons back on January 7 in
Warden Arena, 64-50. The game will tip-off in St. Petersburg at
2:00 pm.
