VB Head Shot Smith

Ashley Smith

Assistant Coach since: 2022-23

Rollins volleyball head coach Mika Robinson has announced the hiring of Ashley Smith as Assistant Coach prior to the 2022-23 school year.

Smith joins the Tars after having served as the head coach at St. James Catholic School in Orlando as well as the head coach and recruiting coordinator at Five Stars Volleyball Club in Apopka.

"We are excited to have Ashley join our volleyball staff," Coach Robinson said. "From our first conversation, I was impressed with how she carries herself and her level of professionalism. Her playing experience at the junior college and D-II level as well as her involvement with a variety of service initiatives and academic high achievement make Ashley a terrific role model for our athletes as we strive to educate global citizens and responsible leaders while building a championship level program."

A native of Coral Springs, Florida and a J.P. Taravella High School graduate, Smith was a two-time Academic All-American at St. Johns River State College in 2014 and 2015, where she registered over 400 kills to rank eighth on the program’s all-time list at the time she graduated. She began working towards her degree in Biology at Columbus State University and racked up 23 kills, 12 digs, and seven service aces in 24 sets for the Cougars in 2016, which proved to be the final season of volleyball at CSU.

Prior to her coaching positions in Orlando and Apopka, Smith was a head coach with the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Academy in 2015-16.

"Coaching at the collegiate level has been an aspiration of mine since early in my playing career," Coach Smith said. "I greatly appreciate Coach Mika and the Rollins program for giving me the opportunity to follow my dreams. I am looking forward to a great year as we work towards building an outstanding program."

Off the court, Smith earned the Silver Cord Award for completing over 250 community service hours while at St. Johns River State College, in addition to being inducted into the Science Honor Society as well as a member of Phi Theta Kappa at SJRSC. She also graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Associates of Arts degree from SJRSC. At Columbus State, Smith was a member of the Honor’s College as well as an Honor’s College Scholarship recipient.
