Don Hogan, the father of interim head coach Kevin Hogan, joins the Tars staff following more than 30 years of coaching at the highest levels in college basketball.
His most recent stint was six years as associate head coach at Coastal Carolina where helped the Chanticleers to a pair of Big South championships, two bids in the NCAA tournament, and 134 total wins between 2009-2015.
Prior to that, Hogan established himself as the winningest coach in West Florida program history. Hogan was the skipper of the Argonauts for 16 seasons, compiling a 239-198 record (.547%) from 1994-2009. He led the team to four NCAA tournaments, eight GSC tournament appearances, and set a school record with 20 wins in the 1997-98 season. He is one of only nine coaches in Gulf South Conference history to eclipse 200 wins, and was elected to the UWF Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. In 1996, one of his former players, Moochie Norris, was selected 33rd overall in the NBA Draft.
In the early 90s, Hogan spent three seasons as an assistant at Davidson College, helping the Wildcats to an NIT berth in 1994.
He also spent six years at Clemson University as an assistant from 1984-89. During those years, the Tigers went to the NCAA tournament twice and the NIT three times. He helped mentor future NBA players Elden Campbell, Dale Davis, Horace Grant, and Harvey Grant.
Prior to his three decades of coaching, Hogan was a standout guard for the University of South Alabama under head coach Cliff Ellis. the Jaguars twice made the NCAA tournament, and were also ranked in the Top 10 of the national poll for the first time in program history while Hogan was a player. He earned both a bachelor's and masters degree in physical education while at USA.
Don is married to his wife Barbara, and they reside in Mount Dora.
