ROLLINS SOFTBALL HISTORY
1987- Despite posting a disappointing 2-28 record, the Tars averaged over four runs a contest and stole 76 bases in 89 attempts, good for an 85% success rate. Junior center fielder Margott Lyons was named honorable mention All-SSC.
1988 - Diane Whaley, who served as Softball's assistant coach the previous two seasons, is named head coach.
1990 - Led by first team All-SSC selectee Melanie Dunbar, the Softball team compiled their best season in history at 17-22, including its first ever Sunshine State Conference double header sweep on April 3 when they defeated Tampa by scores of 3-0 and 3-2 at home.
1994 - Sandra Carter, former coach at local Bishop Moore High School, is named head coach
1995- First year coach Sandy Carter led a team comprised almost completely of freshman, only exception was junior Amy Percy, to a 5-32 record. The five wins included a double header sweep of Tampa.
1996 - The Tars set a new program best in victories, going 22-27 under the direction of first year head coach, Michelle Frew.
1997 - For the second straight season, the Tars earned a new program best in victories, finishing with an overall record of 28-16. The '97 season also marked the programs best ever finish in the SSC, posting a record of 13-15 to finish alone in fourth place. Junior Liz Bartels was named first team All-American, posting a SSC leading .487 batting average with 16 doubles and 32 RBI.
1998 - Set a new school record in victories, 34, as well as finished third in the SSC, best in program history. Ended a 53 game losing streak against conference foe Florida Southern by a score 1-0 in eight innings as well as defeated Barry to end a 37 game losing streak against the Bucs. Head coach Michelle Frew won her 200thcareer game in a 4-1 win over Florida Tech on the way to being named SSC Coach of the Year.
1999 - After a slow start, Rollins rallied to finish fourth in the SSC by winning 17 of their final 25 games. It marked the third straight season in which the team placed in the top four in the league standings.
2001 - Bouncing back from a disappointing year in 2000, the Tars registered more than 30 wins for the second time in school history, finishing with a 32-18 record. Junior Tina Savage was name SSC Player of the Year, setting new team records for home runs and RBI in a season.
2002 - Set a new school record for victories in a season, finishing with a record of 36-14 and also finishing above .500 in conference play for the first time in program history. Senior Tina Savage was name Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
2003 - Finished the year with 34-18 record, marking the third season in a row with 30+ victories. Head coach Michelle Frew registered her 300th career win. Pitcher Sarah Reeber set a new team high with 25 wins.
2004 - Set a new team record for wins in a season while finishing with an overall record of 42-16. The Tars finished second in the conference with a 16-5 record, setting the mark for the highest finish in team history. The Tars received their first ever bid to the NCAA Championships, reaching the semifinals of the South Regional. Three players earned first-team All-SSC honors, led by pitcher Jamie Elam, who ranked among the national leaders in victories.
2005 - Finished the year 33-18 and 9-15 in the SSC after starting the year ranked 17th in the NFCA preseason poll.
2006 - Established a new record for wins in a season, finishing the '06 campaign with a record of 45-16. Head coach Michelle Frew earned her 400th career victory and also secured her 300th victory at Rollins. 2006 marked the ninth season in the past 10 and sixth straight where Rollins earned 30+ victories.
2007 -Posted 40+ victories for the third time in school history and earned the programs second ever NCAA Championship bid, finishing with a record of 41-17. Junior Sherri Rabenold and sophomore Nicole Anderson were named All-SSC first team.
2008- Finished with a 39-16 record and returned to the NCAA tournament for the third time in program history, earning their first ever back to back bids. Senior first baseman Sherri Rabenold was named to the Daktronics All-America first team, All-SSC first team and NFCA All-Region second team.
2009 - The Tars posted a program best 47-10 mark and 18-6 record in the conference, winning the Sunshine State Conference for the first time in school history. Rollins made their third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth under head coach Michelle Frew. Senior Pitcher Nicole Anderson collected Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year honors, Rollins College Female Athlete of the Year, All-SSC first team, Daktronics All-Region first team and NFCA All-South Region first team. Anderson also reached the 1,000 strikeout club, the first pitcher at Rollins to do so.
2010- The Tars posted a record of 45-6, setting a program best 0.88 winning percentage. Rollins captured their second consecutive Sunshine State Conference title and first outright crown in school history. Rollins also made their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth overall under the guidance of head coach Michelle Frew. After going 31-3, freshmen pitcher Kirsten Frame was named All-SSC First Team honors, SSC Pitcher of the Year and Daktronics South Region Pitcher of the Year.
2011 - Marked the second-consecutive season the Tars tallied 45 wins and finished the year ranked No. 16 in the final national poll. The Tars posted a record of 45-4 and set a program record 0.918 winning percentage while collecting their third straight Sunshine State Conference crown and fifth straight NCAA appearance. They were ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation and also earned the right to host the Division II South Region Tournament for the first time in program history. Senior Christine Roser left Rollins as the career leader in hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs and runs scored.
2012 - Finished the regular season 40-9, 19-5 in the SSC to finish in a tie for second place. It was Coach Frew's seventh 40 win season in her career and fourth straight. Ranked as high as 11th in the nation and advanced further than any other team in program history, losing in the regional final, 1-0, to eventual National Champion, Valdosta State. The Tars said goodbye to five seniors, highlighted by senior Monica Meadows, who left Rollins with the career record for hits (259) and doubles (62).
2013 - Rollins finished the season with a 44-8 record, good for the fifth-most wins in program history. Coach Michelle Frew secured her 700th career win on February 1 over St. Martins University in Kona, HI. Frew notched her 600th career win at Rollins on February 24 over Fort Valley State. Niki Fogle was the ninth Tar to be named Daktronics All-America Team, garnering second team honors. The Tars said goodbye to three seniors - Aimee Halpin, Hannah Lovestrand, and Tara Turner - who will be sorely missed.
2014 - The Tars finished 2014 with an overall record of 39-13 after claiming a share of the Sunshine State Conference Championship with a 19-5 record in SSC play. Rollins earned a the fourth-seed berth in the NCAA South Region Tournament in Huntsville, Ala. and secured victories over North Alabama and Tuskegee before falling to top-seeded UAH in the South Region 1 Championship. Rollins says farewell to six seniors, including 2014 NFCA All-South Region teamers Kristie Hoeffer, Veronica Alred, and Hilary Brown. Their talents and leadership will be missed as the Tars look to the next class of players to step up in 2015.
2015 - A promising season for the Tars ended in the NCAA South Region Tournament after two one-run losses at the hands of Florida Tech and the University of North Alabama. Rollins finished the season with a 38-13 record. In the regular season’s final series, head coach Michelle Frew recorded her 700th victory. Five total Tars made their way on All-SSC Teams. Niki Fogle, Brittany Johnson and Julie Kranz earned First Team Honors while Hannah Horwath and Hailee Keisling were named to the Second Team. Johnson and Keisling were also selected to the NFCA All-South Region Second Team and the second-baseman Johnson was also selected as a NFCA All-American. She earned her spot on the Third Team and was the first Tar selected since 2011.
2016 - The 2016 season was a special one for the Tars as they secured their first South Regional Title. Rollins defeated Valdosta State and West Florida on their way to the title. The Tars fell to North Alabama in two narrow games in the Super Regional to end the season 40-16-1. Once again, five players were selected to All-SSC teams. Hailee Keisling, Jule Kranz, Tiffany Osmanski and Niki Fogle were all first team selections while Chelsea Reed was a Second Team performer. Kranz and Osmanski picked up more honors, being named to the NFCA All-South Region team. Meanwhile, Fogle was named as a D2CCA All-South Region performer. At the end of the season, Jule Kranz’s strong season also garnered attention from the NCAA. Kranz was named the Division II statistical champion with .47 sacrifice hits per game.
2017 - Rollins followed their record breaking season with another strong year, but failed to make the tournament, finishing with a record of 29-24. Senior first baseman Hailee Keisling led the Tars in batting average and on base percentage, and her strong performance earned her a spot on the Second Team of the Sunshine State Conference. Chelsea Reed and freshman Sarah Harrison were also named to the Second Team. Meanwhile, Brianne Lint picked up First Team honors following the season where she led the Tars in homeruns (10) and slugging percentage (.551).
2018 - Rollins finished the season with a 27-24 record, their final win of the season coming in spectacular fashion. Grace Street tossed a no-hitter while Brianne Lint recorded her 100th career RBI. following the season, Rollins outfielder Jordan Davis was named to the Second Team of the Sunshine State Conference.
2019 - Rollins once again had an outstanding season, winning 38 games and ending the regular season on a high note - sweeping Lynn. The team’s success on the field was powered by five Tars who were named to the All-Sunshine State Conference. Jordan Davis and Lindsay Gehring were First Team honorees. Freshman Ashley Worrell took home Freshman of the Year for the SSC along with being named to the Second Team. Teammates Grace Street and Abby Summers joined her on the Second Team. Lindsay Gehring was also named to the First Team of the D2CCA All-South Region as well as the NFCA All-South Team. Jordan Davis was selected to the Second Team of the D2CCA and the First Team of the NFCA while Ashley Worrell was a Second Team NFCA All-South Region member.
2020 - A historic season was cut short because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Rollins got off to their best start in program history, winning their first 19 games and climbing to #3 in the national polls. The Tars were 21-3 when the season was officially called off while sitting in first place in the SSC.
2021 - The Tars returned to postseason play finishing third in the NCAA South Regional. Rollins won the Sunshine State regular season title and was the lone member of the conference to participate in the tournament. Five members of the Tars’ squad were nominated as all conference performers. Chelsea Peace and Ali Shenefield were selected to the SSC First Team while Ashley Troutman, Cynthia Whitty and Ashley Worrell all earned a spot on the Second Team. The honors did not stop there for Shenefield. The spectacular freshman pitcher was named to the First Team All-South Region by the NFCA and the D2CCA and she was a Freshman of the Year finalist by the NFCA as well as being selected to their All-American Third Team. Following the season, Michelle Frew, who was awarded with her 4th career SSC Coach of the Year, retired after 29 years of coaching. In her career, Frew recorded 1,009 wins, 878 of which came at Rollins, walkling away as the Tars’ all-time winningest coach after 26 seasons. Christine Roser-LeFevers (‘11) was hired to take the helm as the 10th coach in Rollins Softball program. Roser-LeFevers played 4 years at Rollins and had a spectacular career from 2008-2011.
2022 - In her first season at the helm, Christine Roser-LeFevers (‘11) led the Tars to an at-large bid in the NCAA South Region Tournament and a 32-12 record. Led by Conference Pitcher of the Year Ashley Worrell and All-Conference performers Raiven Bryant (1st Team), Chelsea Peace (1st Team), Ashley Troutman (2nd Team) and Grace Germer (2nd Team). Worrell and Peace were also selected to the NFCA All-South Region First Team while Bryant landed on the 2nd Team. Ashley Worrell was also selected by NFCA as a Third Team All-American.
2023 - Rollins finished the season 32-17 led by superstar senior shortstop Ashley Troutman. The Tars leader batted .488 and had 49 stolen bases on her way to SSC Player of the Year accolades. Troutman was also selected as a Second Team All-American by NFCA and her impressive performance reached the classroom as well. Troutman was a First Team Academic All-American, too.
2024 - The Tars had a strong season, narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament with a 37-12 record. The Tars were ranked in the Top 25 at times throughout the season and were paced by five members on All-SSC teams. Ashley Worrell and Grace Germer were First Team selections while Brie Michelli, Taylor Waters and Sarah Young landed on the second Team. The accolades continued for Worrell was a NFCA First Team All-South Region member and was named an All-American for the second time in her career.
