ROLLINS MEN'S SOCCER HISTORY

1956 - Under the guidance of Hugh McKean, the Tars introduced soccer as a varsity sport.

1957 - Legendary coach Joe Justice took over the soccer program and remained coach until 1968. In only their second season of varsity play, the Tars posted a 5-1-0 overall record and were champions of the Florida Intercollegiate Conference.

1958 - Despite posting a 2-5-0 record, Rollins standouts Phil Galente and Denny Learned received recognition as All-State and All-Florida Intercollegiate Conference selections.

1960 - Rollins won the Florida Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the second time in school history. Led by conference All-Stars Chic Guerrero, Cope Garrett, Elias Terzopoulos and Demetrious Coutsolioutsos, the Tars posted a record of 5-1-2 and beat Jacksonville in the FIC Championship game.

1967 - Wilson Flohr set a Rollins single season record by scoring 21 goals for the Tars. He finished his career with school records for points (129), goals (62) and goals in a game (6). Flohr was a first team All-South and second team All-America selection.

1968 - In their first season under the guidance of Head Coach Gordie Howell, the Tars posted a 9-1-2 overall record.

1970 - The Tars rolled up a record of 10-4-0 to earn the FISC title and reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time.

1978 - The Sunshine State Conference added soccer to its list of sports, and Rollins entered the conference as a charter school. Rollins reached the NCAA Tournament with a 14-5-0 record while Andy Leeker becomes the first Tar to earn first team All-America honors.

1980 - Jeff Ritacco was named SSC Defensive Player of the Year.

1981 - Jim Kerner was named SSC Defensive Player of the Year.

1982 - In his final season as head coach, Gordie Howell guided the Tars to a 12-5-2 record and their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance. He finished his career with a 157-62-16 career record.

1986 - For the first time in school history, two Rollins players were recognized as All-Americans in the same season. John Ford earns NSCAA First Team honors while Oyvind Klausen earned a spot on the NSCAA Second Team.

1991 - Former Rollins standout Keith Buckley was named the seventh head coach in the soccer program’s history.

1993 - Head Coach Keith Buckley was named the SSC Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.

1994 - The Tars set a school record for victories in a season on their way to a 15-3 overall mark.

1996 - John Smith established a school record for points in a season with 49 and career points with 150. He also became the fifth Tar to earn NSCAA First Team All-America honors.

1999 - Tony Amato became the first Rollins player to earn SSC Player of the Year honors while leading the conference in scoring. He also earned Academic All-America recognition.

2001 - Rollins wrapped up the 2001 campaign with a 10-7-1 record led by Adrian Nunez, who led the team in scoring. Matt Camacho earned Second Team All-South Region honors and teammate Peter Hitchen broke a school record for games played on his way to First Team All-Conference recognition.

2002 - Keith Buckley was named SSC Coach of the Year for the second time as Rollins head coach.

2003 - The Tars advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 for the second time in school history. Keith Buckley was named NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year,while players Daniell Robertson and Justin Corrado are named All-Americans.

2004 - Rollins captured its first SSC crown with a 6-1-1 conference mark. The Tars hosted the NCAA South Region Championship and advanced to the Round of 16 for the second year. Daniell Robertson was named the SSC Defensive Player of the Year and NSCAA First Team  All-America, and Keith Buckley earned his third SSC Coach of the Year award.

2005 - Senior defender Daniell Robertson becomes the first three-time All-American and two-time SSC Defensive Player of the Year in Rollins soccer history.

2006 - The Tars hosted the SSC Tournament and captured the title with convincing 3-0 victories over Florida Tech and Barry in the semifinals and finals, respectively. Keith Buckley earned his fourth SSC Coach of the Year award, and Chris Cerroni earned a spot on the NSCAA All-America Second Team as well as being named SSC Player of the Year and SSC Offensive Player of the Year.

2007 -  A promising season ended in the quarterfinals of the SSC Tournament. The Tars finished the campaign with a 10-6-2 record paced by All Conference perfomrers Jon Gruenewald (1st Team), Scott Murrell (1st Team) and Denis Chin (2nd Team). Gruenewald was also selected to the First Team of the Daktronics South Region Team while teammates Thomas Biddinger and Scott Murrell received a Second Team selection.

2008 - The Tars finished the season with a 7-10 record; defender Jacob Deloach received All Conference accolades earning a spot on the All-SSC Second Team. Seniors Scott Murrell and Leslie Osei earned a spot on the Daktronics All-South Region Second Team alongside freshman Nick Sowers.

2009 - The Tars set a new program best with 17 victories and were co-Champions of the Sunshine State Conference. J.D. Gruenewald was the SSC Player and Offensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-American. Keith Buckley was named the SSC Coach of the Year. The Tars ranked as high as No. 3 in the national rankings.

2010 - Rollins enjoyed the most successful year in program history, finishing runner-up in the NCAA Division II National Championship tournament. The Tars posted a record of 15-4-2 and won the SSC regular season championship for the second straight year. Hosting the NCAA South Region Tournament, Rollins beat West Florida and Barry to advance to the national quarterfinals for the first time in school history. In front of an overflow crowd of more than 1,200, Rollins beat Clayton State 3-2 in double overtime to advance to the final four. Rollins upset second-ranked Midwestern State in the first game 2-1, but fell to Northern Kentucky 3-2 in a snow-driven championship game. Thomas Biddinger was named the SSC Defensive Player of the Year, NSCAA All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-American. Jack Clifford was also named All-America.  

2011 - Rollins earned their third-straight bid to the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The Tars finished third in the SSC standings, going 15-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Justin Clark was named the conference Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-South Region. Jack Clifford was named CoSIDA Academic All-American.

2012 - The Tars finished the regular season 15-4, 5-2-1 in the SSC, including an 11-game winning streak entering the NCAA Tournament. Rollins entered the postseason ranked a season-best sixth in the nation after cruising to their second straight SSC Tournament title. As the top seed in the South Region, the Tars earned a bye into the third round of the NCAA’s but fell to eventual National Champion Lynn, 2-1. Rollins finished 12th in the final NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II Poll. Seven Tars were named to the All-SSC teams with Rob Crowley, Daniel Salazar, and Walker Hume named to the first team. Hume was also named conference Freshman of the Year. Brett Durrance, Evan Greenbaum, and Keneil Baker received second team honors and Grant Blackhurst was named honorable mention. Head Coach Dr. Keith Buckley was named the South Region Coach of the Year while Hume was also named Daktronics second team All-America.

2013 - Rollins finished the season 17-3-0 overall, including 7-1 in the SSC, and opened the year with 16-straight victories. The unbeaten streak tied for the longest unbeaten streak in program history. The Tars rose to as high as No. 1 in the country entering the last week of the regular season before suffering their first loss of the year. Rollins fell in the SSC Tournament semifinal but still was named the No. 1 seed in Super Region 2. The Tars defeated West Florida in the Round of 16 but fell in the Quarterfinal to Carson Newman, 2-1. Seven players were named All-SSC, with Walker Hume, Tosan Popo, Tucker Hume, Alex Bisbee and Keneil Baker named to the first team. W. Hume was named the conference Defensive Player of the Year while Popo was named Freshman of the Year. Grant Blackhurt and Rafa Faria were named to the second team. W. Hume, Bisbee, Baker and Evan Greenbaum were also named first team All-South Region while Popo earned second team honors. W. Hume also took home Daktonics and NSCAA First Team All-America Honors while Bisbee was named Daktronics All-America honorable mention.

2014 - The Tars entered the 2014 season ranked fifth in the national poll and remained inside the top-10 through mid-September, rising as high as No. 3 on September 14. Rollins finished the year 10-4-3 overall and 5-2-1 in the SSC to earn the No. 4-seed in the SSC Tournament, eventually losing 5-4 in penalty kicks to No. 5-seed Nova Southeastern. Four players were named to the All-SSC teams with Tosan Popo and Rob Crowley named to the first team and Grant Blackhurst taking home second team honors. Brett Durrance was named honorable mention. Popo and Crowley were both named Daktronics All-South Region while Blackhurst was named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team.

2015 – After losing three straight out of the gates, the Tars eventually recovered to finish third in the SSC, going on to win the Sunshine State Conference tournament, the fifth in the program’s history. Rollins then earned a birth into the the NCAA South Region tournament, serving as the No. 2 seed and advanced to the third round before falling to PBA. Grant Blackhurst and Tosan Popo were named to the All-Conference teams with Popo taking home first team honors. The Tars placed four players on the D2 Conference Commissioner’s Association All-South Region Teams. Popo and Brett Durrance earned First Team honors, while Blackhurst and Mark Biddinger were named to the second team. Popo was also named first team NSCAA All-South Region while Durrance was named to the second team. Popo went on to add third-team Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America to his accolades.

2016 -- The Tars opened the year ranked No. 17 in the NSCAA National Poll. After losing to eventual National Champion, Wingate, to open the year, the Tars reeled off a string of five unbeaten games. However, consistency, ultimately, was lacking for Rollins; as the Tars secured victories over a pair of top-10 opponents, Young Harris on September 4, and a thrilling double over time victory over Barry on October 11, but could not find enough wins to make the conference tournament field. Senior captain Tosan Popo highlighted the squad becoming just the fourth player ever to be named First Team All-SSC four times. A trio of juniors, Fritz Engel, Matt Volk, and Drew Trautmann, were named CoSIDA Academic All-District, with Volk advancing to capture Academic All-American Honors.

2017 - Tars open their season ranked No. 6 in the SSC preseason poll. Rollins took down No. 1 Wingate on the road to highlight their 11-5-1 overall record. The Tars defeated No. 2 Palm Beach Atlantic in the SSC Tournament Semifinals, but fell to Tampa on a late penalty in the Championship match.  Fritz Engle completed one of the most decorated years in the programs history, earning First Team All-SSC, First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District, Second Team D2CCA All-Region, Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region, and CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American.  Stefan Avram, Ben Grant, Matt Volk and Andre Nansen also garnered postseason recognition.

2018- The Tars will end their 2018 campaign at 10-6-0 overall and 4-6-0 in Sunshine State Conference action.  The Tars 2017-18 men's soccer team earned recognition as a Scholar All-America Team, it was announced by the United Soccer Coaches.  Rollins' 3.63 GPA was tied for the highest in the country among all NCAA men's soccer teams. Stefan Avram and Andre Nansen each earned awards for their efforts.

2019- Rollins 2019 campaign ended in the opening round of the SSC Tournament, with a record of 5-8-2 overall. Rollins senior defender Daniel Field has earned United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-South Region Honors, freshman goalkeeper Maximillian Obermeier was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team, and Dominic Adomakoh was named CoSIDA Academic All-District.
 
2020- Due to Covid-19 the Tars did not have a 2020 season.

2021- Rollins open their season up sitting sixth in the SSC preseason poll. The Tars upset No. 6 Wingate in the season opener, but ended the year at 7-6-2 overall, and 4-5-1 in conference play, just missing postseason action. Rollins placed a pair of Tars on the Sunshine State Conference All-Conference Teams, Max Muecke led the way for Rollins earning a First Team nod, while Georgios Koliniatis picked up Second Team honors.

2022 - Rollins finished the season with a 11-4-4 record and a trip to the postseason. A great campaign wrapped up with a heartbreaking loss to Barry University in the South Super Region II Finals by way of penalty kicks. Prior to the loss, the Tars defeated #4 Seed of the Region, University of West Florida and #1 Seed of the Region Florida Tech. A win over Barry would have launched Rollins into the Final Four. After the season, Senior Forward Georgios Koliniatis was selected as a First-Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches. The Senior led the Tars in both goals (9) and assists (6).

2023 - Rollins entered the season preseason ranked #7 nationally and finished with a record of 9-5-3. The season ended at the hands of Florida Tech in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference tournament. The Tars were narrowly left out of the NCAA South Region. Three Tars earned South Region honors: Jorge Lameiras, Nazar Tsaruk and Hayden Judge. Lameiras and Tsaruk were selected to the First Team, while Judge was a Second Teamer. Tsaruk also earned Third Team All-American honors.
