HISTORY

2006 - On November 30, 2006, the Rollins College Athletics Department announced the addition of men’s and women’s lacrosse for the 2007-08 academic year, increasing the College’s number of varsity sports to 23.  Rollins became the 24th NCAA Division II men’s team, joining fellow Sunshine State Conference institution Saint Leo, and only two in the state of Florida to sponsor the varsity sport.  Rollins also became the first school in Florida to offer both varsity men’s and women’s lacrosse.

2007 - On March 19, 2007, Andrew Baxter was tabbed the first men’s lacrosse head coach in the program’s history.  Baxter came to Rollins from Mars Hill College where he was an assistant coach since August 2006. 

2008 - In the Tars’ inaugural season, Rollins went 2-13 picking up victories over Savannah College of Art & Design and the University of New England.  In a year full of firsts, the Tars kicked off the inaugural season with a contest against UCF with Evan Mimum taking the Tars’ first-ever faceoff while Jason McDermott scored the Tars’ first goal.  Days later, Rollins registered their first win in program history against SCAD in a 13-6 home victory.  On March 11, Rollins notched their first win against an NCAA institution in a 10-8 victory over New England, the team’s second overall win.  At season’s end, Rollins finished 2-13 with a 0-4 mark in the Deep South Conference.  Earning postseason honors for the Tars was senior long pole defender Alex Gauthier as he earned DSC Honor Roll accolades.

2009 - Looking to make huge strides in the program’s second season of existence, the Rollins men’s lacrosse team posted a record of 2-8 and failed to record a win in Deep South Conference play.  The Tars opened up the 2009 campaign on a high note earning a 14-11 victory over Grand Canyon.  Rollins dropped the next three contests before edging out Franklin Pierce 10-9 for the second win of the year.  Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Cole and freshman long pole defender Andrew Vossler became the first Rollins players to be named to the All-DSC Team, earning honorable mention honors.

2010 - The 2010 season began on a high note as long stick midfielder Andrew Vossler earned not one but two preseason recognitions.  IL’s Face-Off Yearbook 2010 gave Vossler a Deep South Conference Preseason All-Conference credit, as well as a nod on the Inside Lacrosse Division II Preseason All-American Team (first preseason All-American in program history).  Closing out the 2010 season with a record of 3-9 and 1-4 in DSC action, the Tars picked up a number of firsts throughout the season, including their first DSC win in program history, winning two consecutive contests and picking up a third victory to set a new program record for wins in a season.

2011 - A rocky start to the 2011 season included head coach Andrew Baxter resigning from his duties and assistant coach RJ Rossi being named interim head coach for the season.  Rossi had joined the Tars’ program one year ago and had less than two months to hire a coaching staff.  The Tars finished the year 2-11 with a 0-6 mark in Deep South Conference play.  Austin Ricci set a program record with six goals in a game while three were named to the All-DSC Team, a program first.  Nick Scannapieco and Eric Schmit earned their second straight conference award with Ricci earning his first.  At season’s end, Rossi was named the program’s second head coach in three years.

2012 - Rollins finished 3-12 during the 2012 campaign and 1-7 in the Deep South Conference.  Three garnered All-Deep South Conference nods with Peter Harvey and Andrew Vossler earning second team honors and Nick Scannapieco honorable mention.  The Tars had some close calls throughout the season, including a tough 9-8 loss to Catawba and a double-overtime loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. 

2013 - In the program’s sixth year of existence, Rollins matched a program-best three wins, finishing 3-14 on the year, and a set a program record with a 2-5 mark in the Tars’ final season in the Deep South Conference.  The Rollins men’s lacrosse program will become a member of the Sunshine State Conference beginning in 2014.  Despite the Tars’ struggles, Rollins saw a pair of freshmen earn DSC Freshman of the Week honors while Nick Scannapieco concluded his collegiate career as a first team selection on the All-DSC Team.  Senior Austin Ricci found himself back into the career record books on March 16 as he scored three goals in the Tars’ 15-9 win over Adams State to become the program’s all-time goal scorer. 

2014 - Rollins closed their season with a berth in the Inaugural Sunshine State Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship. The Tars landed two players on the All-Conference First Team and three were named to the All-Freshman team. Sophomore Alex Petsos and freshman Jack Vonarb earned first team, while Nicholas Schultz and Connor McClellan were named to the All-Freshman team.

2015 - Tars finish their season 6-10 an 2-3 in SSC play. Five Tars were named to the 2015 All-Sunshine State Conference teams, including Jack Vonarb and Jake Flynn, who earned First Team Honors.  Jake Hogan was name the SSC Freshman of the Year.

2016 - The Rollins men's lacrosse program advanced to the SSC Tournament Championship Game for the first time in program history, and set a new record for wins in a season, posting the program's first ever winning campaign as they close out SSC Tournament action with a mark of 10-6 and 3-2 SSC.  Midfielder Morgan Baker and faceoff specialist Alex Pestos were named First Team All-SSC, while Lucas Brush, Jack Vonarb, Connor McClellan, and Will Doyle also earned conference recognition.

2017 - The Tars' 10th season Rollins took on one of its toughest schedules in program history. The Tars finished with a record of 7-7 and 2-3 in SSC action, and were ranked as high as 18th on the USILA Division II Poll this season.  Lucas Brush, Austin Jackson, Blake Buell, and Eric NeCamp earned All-SSC honors.

2018 - Rollins ended their season 7-7 and 4-3 in SSC. The Rollins men's lacrosse team placed seven student-athletes on the All-Sunshine State Conference teams, including two First-Team selections. Lucas Bush and Austin Jackson were First Team All-SSC. Evan Schimek was named Second Team, Greg Taicher and Connor Ashton earn Honorable Mention honors, while Joey Cinque and Kyle Sudol were tabbed on the All-SSC Freshman Team.

2019 - Rollins finished their season 10-5 and 4-3 SSC play. Rollins advanced to the SSC Tournament as the third-seed, where they fell to eventual champion Tampa. Senior Defender Evan Schimek became the program's first USILA/Warrior and New Balance All-American, earning Honorable Mention recognition for his 2019 campaign.

2020 - Rollins ended their season due to Covid-19 in March. Before not being able to finish out the season, the Tars were ranked No. 17 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Poll. Rollins senior midfielder Jackson Colling was named a USILA Scholar All-American.

2021 - Rollins ended their season at 7-3, achieving the best winning percentage in program history. Seven Tars finished their campaign with All-Sunshine State Conference honors, including Ryan Dunn, who was named the SSC Player of the Year, while breaking program records in goals, assists, and points.  He was joined on the First Team by  Chase Snyder, while Connor Coltharp, James Cowan, Justin Isenhour, Bailey Pringle, and Connor Thornton also earned recognition.  Cowan and Dunn proceeded to collect All-Region recognition, with Dunn advancing to earn All-American status.

2022 - The Tars posted a 12-3 mark, setting program records in wins and winning percentage, while going 5-2 in SSC play. Rollins saw its season end in heartbreaking fashion, falling to visiting third-seeded Florida Southern in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament, 12-11 in overtime. The Tars placed seven student-athletes on All-SSC teams, headlined by First Team selections Justin Isenhour, Finn Jent, and Bailey Pringle. Rob Champigny and Charlie Rask each earned Second Team recognition, while Grant Hansen and Jack Johnstone were All-Freshman honorees, with Hansen also taking home Freshman of the Year honors. Jent and Isenhour were also named USILA Second Team All-South Region, with Pringle earning Third Team honors and Rask receiving Honorable Mention. Isenhour went on to received a spot on the USILA All-America Third Team, with Pringle and Jent receving All-America Honorable Mention.

2023 - Rollins set a new standard in 2023, going 15-2 overall and 7-0 in conference, breaking the previous year's records for wins and winning percentage. Ranked No. 12 in the preseason, the Tars rose as high as No. 2 in the final two polls prior to the NCAA Tournament, including receiving a first-place vote in the May 8 poll. Rollins claimed its first SSC Regular Season title by virtue of its 7-0 conference record, and the Tars backed it up by dominating the SSC Tournament with a 17-9 semifinal win over Saint Leo and a 13-7 win over Florida Southern in the title game to capture their first SSC Tournament crown. Rollins stumbled in its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, falling to fifth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne in the NCAA II South Region semifinals, 14-8. The Tars earned a litany of postseason awards, including Chris Lewis earning SSC Coach of the Year and Shahé Katchadurian claiming SSC Player of the Year accolades, with 10 Tars earning All-SSC. Katchadurian was joined on the first team by Jack Johnstone, Mikey Berkman, Grant Hansen, Benjamin Kopen, and Justin Isenhour, while Justin White, Logan Myers, Thomas Garvin, and Charlie Metz all made the second team. Myers and Metz were both named to the All-SSC Freshman Team as well. USILA honored Isenhour and Katchadurian with First Team All-South Region spots, while Berkman and Johnstone were selected to the second team, White and Kopen to the third team, and Hansen received Honorable Mention. Nationally, USILA tabbed Katchadurian as the NCAA II Goalie of the Year, in addition to naming him and Isenhour to the All-America First Team. Berkman was named a Third Team All-American, with Johnston, Hansen, White, and Kopen receiving All-America Honorable Mention status.
