1895 - The first intercollegiate athletic event in school history between Rollins and Stetson, won 11-10 by Rollins. Rex Beach was the captain of the first baseball team at Rollins.
1908 - Rollins lost two out of 12 baseball games against four different colleges and earned the Florida State Champions title.
1917 - Due to the war, Rollins baseball was canceled with a notice on April 14, 1917.
1921 - Tars win Florida Intercollegiate Baseball Championship title.
1947 - Joe Justice heads up the first baseball season on record and concludes his first year with a 16-5 overall record.
1954 - Rollins became the smallest school in college history to play in the College World Series as they posted a 25-8 overall record and finished second in the championship. They lost the championship game to the University of Missouri, 4-1.
1966 - Head coach Joe Justice was named the College Baseball Coach of the Year when the team finished 23-11. The Tars also won the Florida Intercollegiate Conference title and appeared in the NCAA Tournament.
1971- Final season Joe Justice is at the helm of the Rollins baseball program and wraps up the 1971 season with a 17-17 mark. Justice finishes his baseball coaching career with a 482-287-3 overall record. He led the squad to 10 Florida Intercollegiate Conference Championships, six NCAA postseason appearances, three College World Series appearances and two NAIA postseason appearances.
1972 - Boyd Coffie named head baseball coach and finishes his first season at Rollins with an 18-20 record.
1973-76 - Head coach Boyd Coffie leads the squad to consecutive NCAA postseason appearances.
1983 - Boyd Coffie named Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year after the squad finished the season 36-13 and 16-5 in league play. The team also earned the programs 13th postseason bid and sixth under the direction of Coffie.
1986 - Head coach Boyd Coffie earns his second Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year honor and leads the team to a 31-25 overall record.
1989 - Under the direction of Boyd Coffie, the Tars registered a 36-24 record and reached the Division II World Series, finishing fifth in the series.
1990 - The Tars set a new team record for wins, going 38-19. Infielder Harry Ball had one of the best individual seasons in team history, recording 90 hits, a school-record 72 runs, a .503 OBP, and a then-school-record 146 total bases. Teammate Carmine Cappuccio was equally impressive, setting a school record with 91 hits and adding 79 RBI (second-most all-time). On the mound, Mike Lynch recorded 11 wins, 145.2 innings pitched and 124 strikeouts, all of which are top-five marks for a single season in program history. The trio of Tars were each named first-team All-SSC and second-team All-American by the ABCA.
1991 - Boyd Coffie coaches his final season for the blue and gold, going 23-29. In his 20 year reign as head coach of the Tars, Coffie went 586-419-6, and is the school's all-time leader in victories.
1992 - John Fulgham starts his career as only the third head coach since 1947, posting a 27-29 record. Outfielder Carmine Cappuccio wrapped up his phenomenal career with an ABCA first-team All-American selection, only the second Tar ever to earn that status. He ranks in the Top 5 in school history in hits, runs, doubles, batting average, and is the school's leader in career on-base percentage (.439).
1993 - The Tars return to their winning ways in Fulgham's second season, posting a 36-23 record and a postseason appearance in the South regional. Catcher Mike Cecere was named first-team All-SSC, and also third-team All-American by the ABCA.
1994 - Rollins finished 40-16 on the year, setting a new mark for most wins in a season. The Tars ranked No. 1 in the nation and spent a total of nine weeks in the top-10. The pitching staff was one of the top in the country, featuring Gregg Smyth (135.1 innings pitched), Justin Hesenius (14 wins), and Ben Fleetham (school-record 158 strikeouts). On offense, the team set school records for runs (484), RBI (434), and stolen bases (160). Fleetham and OF Ryan Alkire were named first-team All-SSC, while 1B Joe Iarrobino, SS Tony Rich, and Smyth earned second-team recognition. Fleetham (second-team) and Alkire (third-team) also earned ABCA All-American status.
1995 - Bob Rikeman takes over as the fourth head coach of the Tars. Rollins finished a topsy-turvy season at 26-28 and 4-17 in Sunshine State Conference action. Rollins won the 48th Annual Baseball Week Tournament with a 5-1 mark and had won 13 of 15 games prior to SSC action. Rollins was 15-6 this year against Division I opponents and lost 12 games by one run. Gregg Smyth set the Rollins all-time record for most careers wins after he beat Michigan on Feb. 22 (in the same game, the Tars turned a triple play)! Smyth finished his career in high style by setting a new NCAA Division II record for most innings pitched (509) with a complete game win over Florida Tech in his final start.
1996 - Rollins finishes 24-29 in Rikeman's second year. Reliever A.J. Brack is named second-team all-SSC.
1997 - A sprint to the finish, winning 10 of their final 13 games lifted the Rollins baseball team to their first winning season since 1994 with a 27-25 mark. Head coach Bob Rikeman notched his 100th career win during the season.
1998 - Rollins posted an overall record of 27-28, but held key moments throughout the season; the squad rewrote the record books in many of the team and individual single-season records. As a team, the Tars shattered the previous single-season records for home runs of 58 with 84 this season. They also broke the records for doubles with 127 and slugging percentage .518. Junior Barton Vaughn set new records for home runs in a season with 22, total bases with 165 and highest slugging percentage at .750. Senior Chris Thorne broke the single-season doubles record of 20 with 21.
1999 - The Tars ended the season with a 27-26 record and reached a national ranking as high as 15th. Senior A.J. Brack pitched a no-hitter against Madonna and had 15 strikeouts. Juniors Justin Sherrod, Chris Doherty and David Bean set new individual school records. Sherrod broke the career home run record when he hit his 35th career homer against Saint Leo and Doherty tied the pitching record of most games started in season with 18. Bean set two new records as he made 30 pitching appearances and averaged 12.04 strikeouts per innings.
2000 - Rollins finished ten games above .500 with a 31-21 record. A whopping seven players were named All-SSC, including OF Barton Vaughn on the first team, and David Bean (RP), Kevin Davidson (C), Peter Fitzgerald (SS), Justin Sherrod (OF), Barton Vaughn (SP), and Brad Vaughn (2B) on the second team. Bean set a school record for pitching appearances, seeing time on the mound in 35 contests.
2001 - With a strong combination of timely hitting, slick fielding and solid pitching, the baseball team moved to as high as 11th in Division II with several big victories early in the season. The team defeated nationally ranked Valdosta State as well as Division I opponents Central Michigan, Virginia Tech and Long Island University. After struggling through the early portion of their conference schedule, the Tars swept SSC foe Florida Tech and finished 32-23, their second straight 30+ victory season. The Tars set a new team benchmark by hitting .334 on the year. Sophomore Jason Cloar set a new school record with a .424 batting average and earned First Team All-Region and Second Team All-SSC honors. Peter Fitzgerald (1st), Tito Alfonso (2nd), and Ryan Park (2nd) were also named All-SSC.
2002- The baseball team opened the season with victories in 14 of their first 15 games and went on to post a 41-16 overall record to reach the NCAA South Regional for the first time in nine years. They finished the season ranked 16th in NCAA Division II. Catcher Kevin Davidson and picher Rob Sitz garnered first-team All-SSC recognition, while Jason Cloar was named to the second-team. Davidson also added ABCA third-team All-American to his resume, and was drafted in the 28th round by the Houston Astros. Ryan Hanigan was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as a free agent in August, and would go on to have a 10-year MLB career.
2003 - The squad finished with a 29-24 overall record and in fourth place in the league standings. However, the team was just a few lucky breaks away from returning to the NCAA Regionals for the second consecutive year as 11 of their losses, including six in conference, were by just one run. Senior Jason Cloar was named the SSC Player of the Year while hitting over .400 for the third straight season. Cloar holds the Rollins record for career hits (302) and batting average (.403).
2004 - The 2004 Tars had the most successful season in program history, winning the Sunshine State Conference for the first time ever en route to a record-setting 48 wins, including a 20-5 record in the SSC. Head coach Bob Rikeman was named SSC and South Region Coach of the Year, while Rollins claimed the SSC Player of the Year (Toby Rice), Pitcher of the Year (Steve Edsall) and placed eight players on the All-SSC Team. Tito Alfonso, Eduardo Chile, Steve Edsall, and Toby Rice were named first-team while Ron Baptiste, Gator Brooks, Luis Dieguez, and Gene Howard were named second-team. Edsall was a second-team All-American and Rice was a third-team All-American. The pitching staff set a school record for strikeouts with 487. Rollins won their second South Region Championship and reached the semifinals of the Division II College World Series. During the South Region tournament, Alfonso, Edsall, Rice and Jeff Halbert were named All-Tournament team, with Edsall claiming tournament MVP.
2005 - Tars baseball rolled up a record of 37-18 on the diamond, tying for second place in the Sunshine State Conference and earning a berth into the NCAA South Region Tournament, their third trip in four years. Luis Dieguez earned first-team All-SSC honors at catcher, while Eduardo Chile was named second-team. Honorable mention accolades were given to SP Gator Brooks, OF Mike Crane, and SS Juan Dieguez. Chile was also named first-team ABCA South Region.
2006 - In their first season under the tutelage of Dr. Jon Sjogren, the Tars go 28-27 (7-17 SSC). Rollins collected wins against D-1 Sacred Heart and UMass. Gene Howard was named first-team All-SSC at third base.
2007 - Rollins suffers there first losing season since 1998, posting a 26-30 record (8-15 in the SSC). Season highlights included sweeps of Bryant and Bentley, and a 5-1 record during Baseball Week. Starting pitcher Dave Nathanson was named first-team All-SSC and first-team ABCA South Region, while Gary Martoccio earned second-team All-SSC recognition. First baseman Stefano Foggi was named ABCA South Region Gold Glove.
2008 - The Tars went 29-24-1 in their third year under Jon Sjogren. Gene Howard wrapped up his career in style, earning first-team All-SSC honors after posting a school-record .426 batting average. He was also named third-team NCBWA All-American and ABCA All-South Region first-team. Joining Howard on the postseason awards list were pitcher Mario Lombardo (first-team All-SSC, first-team NCBWA South Region, second-team ABCA South Region), outfielder Corey Whiting (second-team All-SSC, second-team ABCA South Region), and Bryan Bennett (All-SSC honorable mention).
2009 - Rollins posted a 29-23 overall record, with a 10-13 record in the SSC. Outfielder Bryan Bennett posted phenomenal numbers, leading the team with a .429 average (63-147) to go with seven home runs, 33 RBI and 17 doubles. He earned first-team All-SSC recognition for his efforts. Pitcher Tim Griffin led the team with 67 strikeouts and was named honorable mention All-SSC. Jesse More earned the ABCA South Region Gold Glove award.
2010 - Rollins captured a monumental season as the team finished 41-19, which tied for the second most wins in program history, while stunning the conference as they finished in second place at 16-8. The team also earned a trip to the NCAA South Regional, the first in five years. Senior Taylor Ferguson set new program single-season records with 99 hits, 27 doubles, 261 at-bats and 172 total bases. Starting pitcher Tim Griffin claimed the SSC Pitcher of the Year title and earned numerous postseason accolades including Second Team ABCA All-America and Daktronics Third Team All-America. Ferguson and Griffin were first-team All-SSC, while Ben Hewett and Stephen Hiscock were named second-team. Griffin was also selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 28th Round of the MLB draft with the 852nd overall pick. The team set new marks for hits (655), at abts (2,050) and doubles (126) in a season.
2011 - The Tars finished one win above .500 with a 27-26 record and a 6-18 Sunshine State Conference mark. Rollins picked up only one conference series win which was against No. 8 Barry. Senior Kevin Mager set a new program record in triples in a season with nine, breaking a 37-year old record set by John Castino in 1974. He was named All-SSC Honorable Mention for his efforts.
2012 - Rollins finished the season with a 28-22 overall record and saw head coach Jon Sjogren collect his 200th Rollins victory in a 4-1 road decision versus Eckerd. During the 64th edition of the Rollins College Baseball Week event, right-handed hurler Anthony Figliolia was named NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in a 2-1 victory over No. 8 Grand Valley State. Redshirt senior Kevin Mager, who was the Tars' sole player signed professionally following the season, was named to the 2012 Tino Martinez Award Watch List during the preseason. Second team All-SSC honors were bestowed upon Kevin Mager, Sean Reilly, and Zach Persky.
2013 - The Tars finished 24-23-1 overall and eighth in the Sunshine State Conference standings (9-14-1). Rollins had three players named to the All-SSC Team: outfielder Zach Persky was a first team selection, starting pitcher Taylor Smith was named second team, and pitcher Anthony Figliolia earned honorable mention.
2014 - The Tars concluded the season with a record of 17-28 and a 3-21 mark in the Sunshine State Conference. During the Tars' 66th Annual Baseball Week tournament, head coach Jon Sjogren captured his 600th career win over the University of the Sciences in a 13-0 victory. At the end of Baseball Week, Rollins welcomed the newest member of the baseball team - Ethan Wright. Wright, a cancer survivor of Ewing Sarcoma, "signed" a letter of intent on March 8. Rollins' big win in 2014 came on the road against then-No. 4 West Florida. The Tars took home a 10-4 victory over the Argos using a hot offense behind a stellar pitching performance. Earning postseason honors were junior Christian Coburn as he was named Second Team All-SSC, and sophomore Matt Hendricks, who was named Daktronics First Team All-South Region.
2015 - Rollins finished the season with a record of 21-28-1 and a 6-17-1 record in the Sunshine State Conference. During the Tars' 67th Annual Baseball Week tournament, Seth Brenner was named SSC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA Regional Player of the Week after recording 19 strikeouts with a 0.88 earned run average against Concordia (N.Y.). Rollins picked up three wins against top-25 ranked opponents in 2015, including a 5 hour 35 minute game against No. 4 Nova Southeastern that ended in a Tars 4-2 win. Rollins went on the road and defeated No. 25 Lynn 14-6. The Tars also won at No. 14 Tampa for the first time since 2005 using a Blake Hutton home run in the ninth inning to seal the 12-11 win.
2016 - The Tars ended the year with a 24-25 record, including a pair of wins against Division I Cornell University. As a team, the Tars finished 2nd in the Sunshine State Conference with a .330 batting average. Sophomore Grant Ashline paced the club with a .413 average as he collected 59 hits in 143 at-bats. His performance earned him a spot on the All-SSC 2nd team, along with catcher Chris Corbett who had 33 extra-base hits and a .695 slugging percentage. Outfielder Peter Nicoletto set a Rollins record with ten triples.
2017 - Rollins finished above .500 yet again with a 27-23 record that included series wins against Florida Southern and reigning national champion Nova Southeastern. Talent was everywhere on this club as five players earned All-SSC recognition. Chris Corbett was the top catcher in conference, Peter Nicoletto earned an outfield spot, and Brad Case was one of the top pitchers. On the second team, Caleb Jakes slotted in a relief pitcher spot, while AJ Chacon was nominated at starting pitcher. Nicoletto had a monster year with 36 extra-base hits, including 16 doubles, an SSC-best nine triples, and eleven home runs. Jakes led the conference in ERA (2.52) out of the bullpen. Corbett was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 18th round of the MLB draft.
2018 - The Tars finished the season with a 20-29 record, including a perfect 5-0 record during Baseball Week. Nick Breen tallied 18 doubles, which was the 2nd most in the SSC, while teammate Bryce Peterson had the 5th best slugging percentage at .681. RHP Brad Case posted a 3.46 ERA over 96.1 innings and was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 18th round of the MLB Draft in June.
2019 - Rollins posted a 25-24 record on the season, with series wins against nationally ranked West Florida, eventual conference champion Eckerd, and SSC powers Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern. LHP Jimmy Robbins earned 2nd Team All-SSC recognition after recording 105 K in 76.2 innings to go with seven wins and four saves. The Tars had four players selected in the MLB amateur draft in June: Garrett Leonard (15th round, PIT), Jimmy Robbins (20th round, TOR), Cameron Enck (27th round, COL), and Whit Drennan (29th round, HOU).
2020 - The Tars finished at 13-8 when the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They took the opening series from Spring Hill, swept Bentley across four games, and also won a SSC series, taking two of three from Florida Tech. Junior Cameron Meehan was in the midst of a career year, slashing .395/.485/.630 and leading the Tars in twelve offensive categories. Drew Daczkowski was poised for conference award recognition with a 3-1 record, 1.06 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 34 innings of work on the mound.
2021 - Rollins once again played an abbreviated season due to the pandemic. The Tars played 20 games, finishing with a 9-11 record. Rollins split with #8 Barry, swept Lynn with a pair of shutouts, and took two of three games from #24 Florida Southern. Jaylyn Whitehead was phenomenal on the mound, going 3-1 with a 2.06 ERA across 34.2 innings. He earned 1st-Team All-SSC honors, as well as All-South Region awards from the ABCA, CCA, and NCBWA. The Tars also had Sam LaFontaine (1st), Nick Santucci (2nd), and Cody Oerther (2nd) named All-SSC.
