Men's Tennis Continues Gathering Accolades

Two Tars took home individual awards while the entire team was also recognized

TEMPE, AZ. (May 12, 2026) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released their Division II Regional awards yesterday. A pair of Tars were recognized while the entire team received acknowledgment for their part in service to the community.

Freshman Lawson Prather continued to add to his trophy case earning South Region Rookie of the Year. Last week, the first year Tar was selected by Sunshine State Conference coaches to represent the league as Freshman of the Year. Prather also was a part of the First Team for singles play. Now, he collects the South Region Rookie of the Year, joining Robin Marchione (2013) and Anton Bettink (2015) as the only Tars ever to be selected for the achievement. Marchione was later named the ITA National Rookie of the Year, an award that will be announced later this month. Prather currently ranks #8 in the ITA Singles rankings and has collected three victories over fellow players in the top 15.

Senior Captain Richard Stoiberer joined elite company winning the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award. Back in 2024, Rollins senior Charlie Putrino III was named the national representative for the honor. Stoiberer now joins in receiving the award thanks to his outstanding behavior both on and off the court. The Salzburg native earned all-conference recognition for his stout doubles play last week and currently ranks #12 in the ITA Doubles rankings alongside playing partner Pete Tran. Stoiberer will walk in the team's graduation ceremony later this week, earning his degree as a double major in Computer Science and International Business. He also minored in Spanish and Data Analytics and leaves Rollins College as a four-time ITA scholar.

Finally, the entire Rollins College men's tennis team was named the ITA Community Service Award Winner for the South Region. The team hosted numerous themed matches across various departments on campus. Among them, the Tars highlighted International Students, Rotaract Club, eSports and were joined by Faculty and Staff for the coin toss at a match last month. Before the Spring season began, the men took part in a Pro-Am in tandem with the women's program and Orlando Health. The event raised money for the construction of Orlando Health's Arnold Palmer Children's Pavilion and brought community members together for the special cause.

While the season ended when the Tars came up just short in the South Region Final, the impact of this year's team will be felt for years to come.
