ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 26, 2026) - Rollins finished their sweep of the Eckerd Tritons, continuing their offensive onslaught with a 17-7 win. With the victory, the Tars now stand at 30-12, 20-7 SSC while the Tritons drop to 28-14, 16-8 SSC.
Michael Furry got the party started in the first inning with a solo shot to left. After
Brody Meyers worked a clean first, the Tars were back at it in the second with a big inning. After
Stephen Deans laid down a sac bunt, a throwing error allowed
Matthew Mateo to come around and score. Mauri Beharano followed that with an RBI groundout, and three batters later, Furry went big fly again, smashing a three-run bomb to left to make it 6-1.Â
Eckerd got on the board in the third with a two-out RBI single from Christian Cabina. However, the Tars had an instant response in the fourth when
Joey Rubin doubled home Bejarano, and Furry did the same for Rubin, turning it into a 8-2 ballgame. After the Tritons added one of their own, Rollins again had the response in their next at bat, this time provided by a
Jimmy Thies solo home run.Â
After the Tars added their tenth run on a Bejarano groundout, the Tritons made things interesting with a four-run seventh inning to make it a 10-7 ballgame. Unphased, the Tars took advantage of some sloppy defense from Eckerd to pull away.Â
Three walks loaded the bases for Mateo, who ripped a single to right for two RBI. On the next play, a wild pitch allowed
Connor O'Sullivan to score. A pitching change earned Eckerd their second out, but Bejarano put an exclamation point on his day with a three-run home run to right field. Rubin was up next, drawing a walk, stealing second, and then scoring on a fielding error, making the final of 17-7.
Coby Vallee retired the side in the bottom half to lock in the run-rule victory.Â
Furry was a run-producing machine, scoring three times and driving in five while reaching base five times. Bejarano set a new career-best with five RBI out of the nine hole while also scoring three times. Thies had three hits, and Rubin scored three times to help the offense. Coming into the game, Rubin had 198 career runs. Now standing at 201, he is only the second player in program history (Harry Ball '90, 215) to eclipse the 200 run mark.Â
JR Struk earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief, allowing no hits, one run, three walks, and four strikeouts.Â
For the series, Rollins outscored Eckerd 62-15. They had 55 hits, 50 RBI, 11 doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 26 walks, 13 stolen bases, and were hit by pitches seven times.Â
Next up for the Tars is the final home stand of the season. They are on a bye week from SSC play, but will welcome the #24 Wayne State Warriors to Winter Park. A four-game set against the Michigan school will begin on Friday, May 1st with a 3pm first pitch from Alfond Stadium. Â
