Rollins Rallies to Defeat Assumption

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Rollins softball closed out the Eagle Classic with a 7-4 win over Assumption on Saturday.

Brianna Perantoni started things early for the Tars with a single in the bottom of the first and eventually worked her way to third base. Madi Carr brought her home moments later, sending a single into left center to plate the first run of the day.

After a scoreless second inning, the Greyhounds found momentum in the top of the third, stringing together four hits to score four runs and take the lead.

The game remained quiet for the next few innings before Rollins began to chip away in the fifth. Isabella Golas stepped in as a pinch hitter and delivered a triple to left field. Perantoni followed by reaching on an Assumption error, allowing Golas to score and trim the deficit.

Rollins carried that momentum into the seventh. Jenna Borkey opened the inning with a walk before Chloe Bauer moved her into scoring position with a base hit. Claire Long followed with an RBI single to bring Borkey home and keep two runners aboard. Golas returned to the plate and singled to load the bases. Perantoni delivered again, lining a base hit to plate another run and tie the game. After Assumption made a pitching change, Brooke Theisen lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Tars the lead. Rachel Matthiesen then provided the biggest swing of the inning, doubling to score two more and extend the advantage to 7-4.

Assumption managed a hit in the final inning, but the Rollins defense and relief pitching from Addison Zajkowski shut down the rally to secure the victory. Reese Twiggs earned the win in the circle, improving to 7-2 on the season after tossing 4.2 scoreless innings in relief.

Rollins will return home Monday, March 9, hosting Caldwell for a 5 p.m. / 7 p.m. doubleheader at MLK Jr. Park in Winter Park.
