How Sweep It Is! Tars Control Golden Eagles, 5-0

Rollins clinched over the University of Charleston, winning 5-0 on International Students' Night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2026) – The Tars got off to a hot start and never looked backed Thursday, cruising to a 5-0 victory over the University of Charleston. The impressive win is the second consecutive sweep for Rollins and the sixth straight win to open the season.

You can't do any better than a sweep of the doubles action, and that is exactly what the Tars drew up for International Students' Night. Line one finished first, with Austria's Richie Stoiberer and Pete Tran writing home a 6-3 victory. Then, in a back-and-forth on court three, fellow Austrian Nico de Giacomo and Lawson Prather clinched the point just before their comrades on court two could do so. The duo won 7-5 while Germany's Mo Anterist and Fabian Gusic were one game away from doing the job themselves.

That was the theme Thursday: win fast, otherwise your match is not finishing. Nico de Giacomo padded the Rollins lead with a 6-1, 6-4 win playing number four singles while Lawson Prather won 6-3, 6-3 from the headliner. Riding high from their dramatic doubles win, the number three duo for the Tars had put Rollins in a position to clinch. Now, it was a senior's turn to shine.

Fabian Gusic fell behind with a 6-2 defeat in set one. Undeterred, the veteran bounced back, flipping the script in sets two and three. Gusic dominated, going 6-1, 6-1 to seal the deal. The native of Celle, Germany helped the Tars improve to 6-0 on the season, sending the fans and all that came in support of International Students' Night home happy.

Adding one more to the score, fellow senior Richie Stoiberer found victory on line two. The native of Salzberg paced the second set after prevailing in a tiebreaking first. His scoreline reads: 7-6, 6-1, finishing before the match was official declared over.

After the game, head coach Jay Friedman had this to say to one reporter covering the team: "That match was high energy from the start. They definitely showed they were up for a fight tonight and we certainly need to take a look at a few details before Saturday."

The Saturday bout Friedman speaks of is with the #1 ranked Barry Buccaneers. Tar nation, come out and support for this epic conference duel on Rotaract Club Day! Doubles action starts at 11am.
