Rollins Completes Sweep of Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Rollins softball completed the series sweep over Lynn on Saturday, earning a 4-2 win in game one before taking the second, 7-3.

Game One – Rollins 4, Lynn 2

Rollins wasted no time in the opener. Daylin Hejtmanek drew a leadoff walk to give the Tars their first baserunner, and Rachel Matthiesen followed with a single to move her to third. Madi Carr brought Hejtmanek home with an RBI knock to open the scoring, and Brooke Theisen added to the early momentum with a double to left center, scoring two to make it 3-0.

Lynn answered in the bottom of the first, using a pair of hits to plate its first run of the series. Both offenses quieted over the next inning before the Fighting Knights added another in the third to trim the deficit to one.

Rollins threatened in the fourth with a Theisen single and a walk to Claire Long, but both runners were left stranded. The Tars added insurance in the fifth, as Hejtmanek reached on a walk and later scored on a double from Cambrie Todd to push the lead to 4-2.

Lynn put runners aboard in the sixth, but Rollins held defensively to strand both and secure the game one victory.

Camila Leon-Blanco earned the complete-game win, improving to 7-4 on the season.

Game Two – Rollins 7, Lynn 3

Lynn struck first in game two, loading the bases before using a pair of hits to plate two runs.

Rollins responded in the second. Carr drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Theisen before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Kaeli Zahradnik drove her in with an RBI to cut the deficit in half.

The Tars evened things up in the third. Jenna Borkey reached on a walk and stole second before coming around to score on a base hit from Matthiesen.

Lynn briefly regained the lead in the fourth, using a triple and a Rollins error to make it 3-2. The Tars threatened in the inning with a pair of walks but were unable to capitalize.

Rollins took control in the fifth. Matthiesen singled and Jaelyn Joiner entered as a pinch runner, quickly stealing second. Todd delivered an extra-base hit to tie the game, and after a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third, Theisen brought her home to give the Tars their first lead of the game.

The inning continued as Zahradnik singled to keep the rally alive, and Isabella Golas delivered the biggest swing of the game with a pinch-hit double to score two and extend the lead to 6-3.

Rollins added an insurance run in the seventh, using base hits from Long, Hejtmanek, and Borkey to push the advantage to 7-3.

The Tars' defense held the rest of the way to complete the sweep.

Reese Twiggs earned the win in the circle, improving to 10-5 on the season.
Rollins improves to 20-10 overall and 8-7 in SSC play, while Lynn falls to 9-19 (2-10 SSC). The Tars return to action Thursday, April 2, opening a series against Florida Tech at 6 p.m. in Melbourne.
